Shopping in Thailand is big business. Even on an island such as Ko Lanta, where it’s all about the beaches, there are enough small markets, jewelry shops, and professional tailors to keep shopaholics happy. Plus, there are a wider range of options within a short boat ride away if the shopping offerings on the island itself don’t satisfy. Whether you’re looking to splurge on a spree or just browse for a few souvenirs to take home, here’s your guide to the best shopping in and around Ko Lanta.

Kirsty S's City Tips

  • Be polite but don’t be afraid to walk away from an item you think is too expensive – you might just get called back to agree on a lower price.
  • Good manners and a smile will see you land more bargains than a steely approach when haggling with shop or stall owners.
  • Be careful – there are plenty of unscrupulous jewelry dealers in tourist places such as Ko Lanta, so do your research and if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

    Kirsty S Says:

Tailors in Thailand are common and Ko Lanta is no different in this respect. Because competition is high, many tailors do what they can to bring in business, including trying to get people in off the street to buy their services. The Tiger Collections is different. Owned and run by Mr. Nut, there’s a friendly atmosphere here and nobody is trying to usher you into the shop! The quality of both the service and the finished products speak for themselves.
