1 day is extremely short to explore the city and truly feel it, but it is still enough to get impressed with Russian culture, make memorable photos and have lifetime experience. There are two options: it can be only must see places or you can combine must see places plus off-the-beathen-path. Here are some must see and must do in Moscow. Must do places: Good coffee :) Red Square Kremlin Tverskaya street Christ the Savior Golden street of Moscow - Ostozhenka Arbat street Kolomenskoe/Tsaritsino Parks WWII museum Bolshoy theatre Historical downtown Tretyakov Gallery Zamoskvorechye area Gorky Park Crimean bridge and embankment Museon Sculpture Park Moscow Metro Novodevichiy Monastery Observation Platform on Sparrow Hills Izmailovo Flea Market Kitay Gorod Some off the beaten path ideas: - Chocolate museum near Christ the Savior Cathedral - Pub crawl on Kamergersky lane - Boat trip on Moscow river from Sparrow Hills to Gorky Park - Poklonnaya Hill climbing in Victory Park - Modern Art Gallery - one of four MOMA museums - best place to meet young local intelecctuals - Sunbathing, people watching, yoga, evening dancing classes in Gorky Park, # 1 park in Moscow with 100, 000 people a day on the weekend - Professional photo session with local photographers. FriendlyLocalGuides's City Tips

  • Best local experience is in the early morning: 5-7am. The city is just wakening up, the coffee shops serve yummy breakfasts, the metro stations are easy to photograph
  • Coffee Bean is the best coffee shop in town, with 50 specialty sorts of coffee. My favourite is on Pokrovka street
  • If you are into bike tours: Velobike has best prices and most comfortable system. Shame it is in Russian only so far, ask me or any local if you need help.
  • Best shots of Kremlin are from the bridges: Big Stone bridge (bear Borovitskaya tower), Big Moskvoretsky Bridge (near Red Square), Patriarch bridge (behind Christ the Savior)
  • Explore Kamergersky and Stoleshnikov lanes in the daytime and Arbat street at night. The architecture of K. & S. is gorgeous, while Arbat is at its best with night lighting

In 2015 Moscow metro celebrates 80 year anniversary. May 15, 1935 was opened first line, red line, with trains going from Sokolniki to Gorky Park. Drop inside Metro on May 15, the trains parade will be fun! :) Overall, Moscow Metro is really an underground museum. There are 196 metro stations, of which 133 stations with escalators and 44 are recognized as objects of cultural heritage.
