Shopping Guide to Bangalore

This cosmopolitan gem of a city is home to many Indian tech-professionals and corporates, but has a way of making you feel welcome no matter where you are from. Though it is the state capital of Karnataka, as well as Kannada being the official language, English is spoken widely, making shopping in this modern and beautiful city, even easier. The malls and shops are very well developed too, and spread across the city to provide something for everyone in every neighborhood. Where to start? Follow my guide.

Mika T's City Tips

  • Make sure to try the typical, local street food and other dishes of the city, including masala dosa (rice pancake filled with potato curry) and rava idli (savory cake made with semolina.) The food is very tasty, and healthy too.
  • Traffic can be bad in busy areas, so factor this into your travel times, and always wear your seatbelt when possible.
  • You can get around the city cheaply by metro, or by black and yellow auto-rickshaw.
  • Bangalore has a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The wettest months are August through October.

Forum Mall is a one-stop shop for a great retail experience. This mall is conveniently located in Kormangala, and offers a huge variety of stores and things to do. Also, you can enjoy a great movie experience before or after you browse, as the PVR cinema chain has a location here.

    Tips
    • The food court has a great variety of cuisines, with something to suit all tastes.
    • Kalmane Coffee Cafe is a great place for a coffee or chai break.
    • The PVR Gold Class cinema is an awesome experience, but a little more expensive than other cinemas. If you're planning on seeing a movie, buy your tickets in advance online.
    • It's super duper busy on weekends, so parking can be a problem here.
    • Great place to buy books in English.

This is one of my favorite malls in Bangalore, featuring some of the best and leading international brands in the city. Though this mall is a bit far out (meaning it's a bit of a drive to get there,) you'll find it an amazing place for a full day of shopping. It's so huge in fact that you're unlikely to cover every store, but with its great architecture and modern buzz, you'll have lots of fun trying!

The Inorbit chain of malls make for popular shopping destinations in many cities in India. I personally like this location in Bangalore as it tends to be less crowded than other malls in the city, yet still offers plenty of international and local brands to browse. Quiznos, located in the mall, serves up some really yummy submarine sandwiches — the perfect place to refuel when you need a break from the stores!

Moreover, when you're tired from all that browsing and entertainment, the food court offers some really delicious options.
