Andrea D's City Tips

  • The local language of the city is Kannada, but don't worry as most people communicate in Hindi and English.
  • Make sure that you drink mineral water only, and check that the bottle seal isn't broken beforehand. Avoid road-side food and street-side fruits salads.
  • Carry woolen clothes and an umbrella with you from October to February, as the weather can fluctuate. Also wear comfortable footwear or sport shoes, as there will be plenty of walking to do.
  • It is better to book a cab from a reputable agency or through your hotel to cover most of these places, as the distances between them are significant. It's also a more comfortable way to move around and to avoid having to navigate across streets with busy traffic.
  • Irrespective of the mode of transport, round up the fares.
  • Most restaurants have a service charge added to the bill, but do leave a tip behind as generosity always goes a long way.

    Andrea D Says:

No trip to Bangalore is complete without having some 'dosas' and 'idli' for breakfast. MTR was founded by two brothers in 1924, and since then, the locale has been serving up authentic Karnataka food from the Udupi region of the state, flanked by a special filter coffee. The decor is nothing special, but only because the focus here is on the quality of the food.

Spread over 240 acres of landscaped terrain, the expansive and lush Lalbagh Botanical Gardens were created in the late 17th century by the ruler Hyder Ali. The diverse collection of plants here is impressive, and the flower show hosted at the glass house every year is one of the feature attractions. Lalbagh is also home to the largest collection of tropical plants in India, a lake, and an aquarium.

This hidden gem is located in one of the busiest parts of the city, near KR Market. Teak wood pillars give it a unique look, and the intricate frescoes and Islamic art inside the palace are not to be missed. An inscription on one of the wooden panels proclaims it an 'abode of happiness.' It's a marvelous heritage site.

It is the culmination of bodacious brews, fabulous foods, and a passion for providing the ultimate brewpub experience that was born when three friends quit their jobs to make it happen.
