I have travelled extensively through Southeast Asia. I know Thailand and Malaysia particularly well, but also love Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore. I travel to this part of the world whenever I can, sometimes on a short trip while on route to Australia, and sometimes for extended periods of time so that I can really get beneath the skin of a particular area – whether I’ve been to that spot before or not. I've spent a lot of time in Bangkok – it's a fascinating melting pot of a city where there's always something new to explore. I also love Hanoi and have explored it both independently and as part of an organised tour. More than anything, I love discovering something new while travelling and sharing it with those who have the same passion for travel as I do. I’m a bit of a foodie and never get bored of the beach.

Cruising down the Mae Ping River on a raft is a romantic way to spend a few hours. While the banks of the river around the city are now scattered with hotels and restaurants, the moment you drift out into rural Chiang Mai the scenery switches to lush jungle and traditional teak houses. The ancient lost city of Wiang Kum Kam can also be found along the banks of the river, just south of Chiang Mai.
Enjoy a massage with your other half by taking them to Green Bamboo Massage. There are plenty of places to enjoy a massage around Chiang Mai but Green Bamboo operates in a friendly and cosy atmosphere with a focus on Lanna Thai treatments. It’s a cute little hut tucked away in a side street within the walls of the old city.
Doi Inthanon is the tallest mountain in Thailand and if it’s stunning scenery you and your loved one are after, you could do worse than a visit to the national park that surrounds it. The park has hiking trails, waterfalls and two pagodas. It’s a popular day trip from Chiang Mai, offering a cool respite from the city heat with a truly spectacular backdrop.
If you really want to impress, treat that someone special to dinner at Farang Ses. It serves high quality French cuisine in a romantic setting overlooking rice paddy fields. It features live piano music every evening, which really sets the mood, plus the level of service and attention to detail is extremely high.
If you’ve been doing a lot of walking around Chiang Mai, take a rest in the romantic setting of Suan Buak Haad Park. Situated in the southwest corner of the old town, this beautiful little park is the perfect scenic spot to take a relaxing stroll or rest those weary feet.
This is another romantic setting for that special night out in Chiang Mai. Set in a charming courtyard, the Rachamankha restaurant offers a wonderful ambience and a high standard of Thai/Chinese fusion food, along with some fantastic wines. Add excellent service and a high level of attention to detail and you’ve got yourself the perfect romantic night out for two.
Thailand is well-known for its yoga, and no more so than in Chiang Mai. At Yoga Mind Yoga Body, you and your loved one can immerse yourself in either group or private classes in its beautiful rooftop studio. Founder and yoga teacher, Gernot Huber has been studying yoga since 1996, and has developed his own unique style using a combination of various techniques.
Paak Dang is one of the best places for a romantic dinner in the whole of Chiang Mai. Everything is spot-on, from its superb location tucked away at the northern end of the Mae River Ping, to the music, lighting and attentive staff. The views across the river couldn’t be better and the food is tasty, authentic Thai cuisine. Paak Dang is ideal for that special night out.
If you’re looking for a romantic setting for a picnic, head out of the city to the Mae Sa Waterfall. Actually a series of falls, a trip to Mae Sa provides some fantastic photo opportunities, as well a great place for hiking and swimming in a beautiful natural environment.
The Restaurant at the Anantara offers a good choice of Asian and international cuisine. It also offers scenic views across the Mae Ping River and the mountains in the distance. With a five-star service and live music setting exactly the right tone, dinner at the Anantara is a romantic affair indeed.
