Fedefederiv's City Tips

  • Online booking to Vatican Museums and Colosseum is imperative!
  • Beware of pickpockets especially when queuing
  • Do not buy a multi-day subway pass as the majority of the attractions are not so far from each other!

Amazing. Just amazing. There are two options to get up there: on foot or by elevator. Bear in mind that even by choosing the elevator option, there are still some 100 steps to climb. The view from the top is, beyond words, breathtaking. One can admire and take pics of the main sites of Rome (the Pantheon, Castel S. Angelo) and the Vatican's Gardens. Make sure you go queuing early in the morning because the main way to get to the Cupola is through the Basilica and the line builds up pretty fast. If you are in the Vatican Museums with a guided group, you will be able to skip directly into the Basilica at the end of your tour and, therefore, go get your ticket for the Cupola! Enjoy!

The Basilica, the columns and the square as a whole are one of the most impressive places I have ever seen in my life. It is well worth a walk by during the different hours of the day as the light is different and therefore it reflects with different shades on the stone, by creating endless picture opportunities from many many angles and perspectives!

It is a nice walk approaching St. Peter's Square. There are nice little fountains with little dragons' heads which are worth taking a picture at. I would avoid sitting down for a coffee or a drink in this street because the bars are way too expensive! Have a nice walk!

I did not plan to visit this attraction from the inside, but I was really looking forward to take many many pics of it from the outside from different perspectives during daylight and at night time. My friend suggested we go inside and this was, by far, the best "change of program" I have ever experienced during a trip. The view from the top is beyond breathtaking. By far the best one ever. It seems time stops there. You can enjoy the view of the Vatican from afar, but yet it seems you can touch it with your hand. Make sure your camera has fully charged batteries before getting there. The view of Trastevere is also amazing. Before leaving, make sure you have a few euros to splash in a nice aperitivo within the castle. The view is so worth it, you will never want to leave. A memory to remember by for a lifetime!

If you want to have cocktails at night well... Trastevere is the place to go. Its lively, narrow roads really take you in the Roman atmosphere and all you wish to do is finding a seat, relax and enjoy your drink while people watching. I went there with friends who live there and I couldn't ask for a better scenery for our reunion!

I did not visit this renowned square during the day. I did it by night. I was out for drinks with my friends, who were so nice to take me here to enjoy the place without crowds of visitors. It is a pity I had no time to see the wonderful fountain during the day, but I would recommend a walk here to any couple at sunset or after. The square is well illuminated by public lightning so any pic you may want to take will come out just nice.

This place is definitely one of the most popular spots with visitors in Rome, so make sure you book your tickets at least a couple of weeks in advance in order to avoid a very (very) long queue. The place has a wonderful garden and so much history you could spend the day there! Booking a guided tour with a local tour operator could be a good idea because you could skip directly inside the St. Peter's Basilica at the end of the tour instead of going out and queuing again. Guided tours have this "skipping" privilege, so don't be afraid to ask any promoter the possibility to "discount" the online booking you may already have from the price of a tour. Get ready for the museum visit of a lifetime!!

I am not an expert on Arts or History but every time I visit a site like this, I wish I could know and learn more. It is well preserved and you could easily spend two hours just taking pictures! This place is also ideal for families with kids, because they can have a walk around the small grass fields and imagining how the place used to look like! Just make sure you carry a bottle of water with you (and apply sunblock). Facilities are good as well. I recommend online booking because there may be queues especially on high season. There is a combined ticket Colosseum+Roman Fora that can be used within 48 hours. The ticket I booked online had no specific date/time for entry, so I was able to scan it myself directly at the gate! I usually never put down the map when I travel but, when I did so in Rome, I got to this lovely square which turned out to be an excellent picture opportunity. There is also a statue of the Romulus and Remus with the wolf! This shows that, every now and then, even when you are following a tight itinerary, getting lost for a moment and enjoying any surprise that may come along could be an excellent idea!!!

Come on, everyone know the famous scene of "Roman Holidays" filmed at this famous spot! It is a must in Rome! And indeed a very fun one! We were really lucky the queue was short and a volunteer working there was so kind to take a really nice picture of us. This place is a nice memory of my Roman holiday. So if you are planning a trip in the Eternal City, do not forget to include this attraction in your itinerary! P.S. Do you always say the truth?? :)

What a place! It must be wonderful when it rains for the water falls directly inside from the perfectly round whole on the ceiling. A masterpiece of architecture and engineering! There is no fee to enter and you can take your time enjoying every minute of your visit. What impressed me the most is the fact that this building is very big but yet it is placed on a square that looks really small at first sight. Proportions are impressive and the buildings around it play a perfect role in the whole scenery. Pictures are must both from the inside and the outside!
