If you arrive by plane, Fiumicino its probably your point of entry. Leonardo Da Vinci's Airport its a busy and sometimes difficult to move place. Access to and from the Airport its not either cheap nor simple. Most of the big hotels would pick you up from the airport itself if you arrange with them, but sometimes you might need a hand to move around. Taxi's usually have a fix rate of 50 Euros to the city but if you are a tourist, that might change very fast. Hotels pick ups are convenient but sometimes erratic and you might wait for a while. One of my choices usually is to rent a car, since car rentals are quite cheap in Europe, and you can find very good deals on the internet. With a car of your own, you can enjoy several things in a day but to coup with the italian traffic and limitations is not something easy. The others choices are either to take the train or the bus. Buses usually are easy to book but they take so much time and there is so little space to carry your bags. Train is the other option. Tourist would take the Termini express train but that the expensive and the easy option. It takes 45 minutes but with no stops. Locals would take the other train, the train to Roma Tiburtina, to avoid the hefty fee of the express train. The train has a few stops but it also stops in Roma Trastevere and Ostiense, making your connection easy if you stay in the south part of the city.

    Tips
    • Keep always your baggage close and at your sight.
    • Tickets are a must if you take the train. Avoid fines by keeping your tickets at hand.
    • Prebook your picks up and reconfirm them. Ask for a telephone just in case.

If you arrive by train to the magic city, Termini would not give you the best impression. Looks dirty, shady and confusing, but at the same time, its the heart of the Roman transportation system. Most of the long distance and international trains would depart from here (with some exceptions that are directed to Tiburtina). Most of the buses depart from here as well, with the airport buses as a must if you want to spend just a few euros. Metro lines are connected here as well, giving you a wide range of mobility. Around Termini you would find the cheapest hotels and some of the most popular hostels. Its not the safest area to walk around at night so try to use the station during the day and avoid the side exits as much as possible.

    Tips
    • Avoid night connections in Termini if possible.
    • Try to go with some extra time to find the correct bus or train departure point. Delays are expected always.
    • Try to use the Metro to cut your walking. You will do plenty of that.
    • Avoid buses during peak hours. You would arrive faster by foot at those times.

One of the most avoided places in Rome, this church its close to Termini and deserves to be seen. If you have some time before your departure, leave your baggage in the baggage zone of Termini and walk to Santa Maria Maggiore. Its a church, so avoid shorts and sleeveless shirts, so cover up, or take a jacket and access this beautiful place. Lots to see, from mummified popes to ancient relics. An unique place. Grab a guide and look around. If you avoid going just before lunch, most of the times, you will have the place for yourself.

The Pantheon its a lovely place to enjoy specially during the early mornings. As one of the best well maintain buildings of the Ancient Rome, try to avoid the big crowds and come to this place as early as you can. The morning light its something beautiful to enjoy in this place and the fresh air of Rome awakening its nice and calm. The place opens around 9am but you can enjoy a cup of coffee around the area while you wait. After all, Rome its more about living than seeing...

A typical Roman coffee shop, this place offers one of the best coffees in Rome. There is no seating, no service and the system its a little bit confusing but thats Rome, confusing and wonderful. The coffee might be one of the best. Drink it like a local, standing with a pastry and in a rush. Have your shot of caffeine and continue your trip through the magical city. Remember to pay first and they take your ticket to the counter, otherwise, you will be doomed.

La Fontana di Trevi its one of many magical places in Rome. Always crowded, always open, its something fun to see and enjoy while battling with the hordes of street vendors and souvenir sellers. Grab a gelato or a panini and sit down next to the Fountain to enjoy the show of flipping coins and awkward pictures. My favorite time its at night, when everything else its close, most of the people still come here to flip a coin or more.

If there is a match in Rome, you should try to see it. AS Roma and Lazio are the local teams and the passion its unique within their fans. The stadium its next to the river and its easy to reach. There is no tour, shop or museum but its a nice stadium to enjoy the passion of football. Tickets are easy to get. You can go to any official fan shop (a few of them close to piazza colonna), registered and get the match day tickets. Most of the games don't sell out and you can get the tickets a few days in advance. IDs are required to access the stadium and your name will be written in the ticket. Its not the safest attraction of all but its something worth to see...!!
