Enrique A's City Tips

  • To move around Ixtapa, take a taxi or use the 'colectivo' (public minibus) service, which is really cheap.
  • Always bring enough water to keep you hydrated, and wear comfortable shoes if you are planning to walk around a lot.
  • Remember to carry cash with you, as some places might not have ATMs close-by, or accept debit or credit cards.

If you've got various outdoor demands to satisfy, then head here to Playa la Ropa. Here you can relax, while the kids or teens do something a bit more sporty — such as kayaking, parasailing, or jet skiing — plus, there are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore when you want to take a break from the fun on the sand.

Here you'll find a good mix of activities and relaxation opportunities, with the sound of the waves to soothe you. Or maybe rent an umbrella and other equipment at the beach club nearby.

Both the museum and the open-air archaeological site here give you lots of history to indulge in. You'll get to see the pyramids that are still being restored, and also learn more about what life used to be like here through various mock-ups and reconstructions. A must for all history buffs!

A great place for the little ones especially, Playa Las Gatas is blessed with calm waters ideal for paddling and swimming. You can also take a boat ride from here and explore the bay, or maybe do some snorkeling or even some diving in the clear waters — if you come prepared with your own equipment.

Vista Hermosa is a really beautiful and secluded beach, where you'll be greeted by nothing but an amazing view. The currents here can be tricky to navigate however, so you may want to swim with caution, or avoid the sea altogether, and relax on the sand to wait for the mesmerizing sunset.
