Fernanda C's City Tips

  • Avoid eating fruit from the street stalls — it is likely to have been sitting out in the sun for some time.
  • Plentiful and inexpensive, taxis are a good idea if you want to move around downtown.
  • Always carry a bottle of water, sunglasses, and a hat.
  • Don't take a cab from downtown to the Hotel Zone. There is a frequent shuttle bus service that is a much cheaper way to travel between these two areas.
  • To blend in more with the locals, avoid wearing sandals and flip flops when dining out downtown.
  • Always carry 20-peso bills and 10-peso coins to pay for taxi and bus services. US dollars and 200-peso bills can be problematic.

An early morning visit to Playa Delfines, one of the most beautiful public beaches in Cancun, is a great way to start the day. Rent a sun umbrella or just lie down on your towel and chill here for a few hours.

Here, you'll find local artisans selling their creations, and food stalls offering typical snacks like esquites (a corn snack) and tamales. Plus, the stage in the center of the main plaza shows a wide variety of concerts, expositions, outdoor cinema, and dancing events.
