This is one of those places where every visitor has to eat at least once. We followed the advise of the travel guides and they weren't wrong. The food was excellent and it was fun sitting at the "community table." The best meal they serve is breakfast.
2. Plaza Cafe
We stumbled across this place and it turned out to be a happy accident. The food was great and the prices were really affordable. All the other eateries in Santa Fe were a bit pricey, so this was a great treat for both the mouth and the wallet!
We were pleasantly surprised by the shopping in and around the plaza. We were expecting a lot of cheesy Southwestern stuff, but the variety and quality of the merchandise was quite good. You could find western wear in one store and then handmade Italian men's shirts in the next. Just about every country was represented. We even found a store that sold folk art from Poland and Latvia.
This is a reputable dealer of Native American art that deals directly with the artists. They had an incredible selection, especially of Zuni fetishes, and the staff really knew their subject. There was too much to choose form.
