Cruise from New Orleans to Mexico

29 Jun 2012  Been to 20 countries but this was my first cruise. It won't be my last

Carnival Elation cruise ship goes from New Orleans to Progreso on the Northern Yucatan. Don't miss your chance to take a day trip to the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza. The next day of the 5-night cruise takes you to the tourist center in Cozumel on the southern Yucatan. The two days at sea on the Elation ship are just as much fun. There are trivia contests, dance classes, food and more food, and plenty of musical shows and entertainment.

Mayan ruins. Great for history buffs.

  • 2. Cozumel

Plenty of shop vendors to haggle prices with. Prices are cheap since the competition is fierce. You can also go snorkeling, scuba diving or take a trip in a submarine.

    Costa Brava, Cozumel

Want to eat ata real Mexican restaurant while in the tourist center of Cozumel. Just a block or two off the beach strip is Costa Brava. My son and I were the only gringos in there. Octopus or Pulpo in spanish was one item on the menu. I ordered tacos and my son enchiladas. The chips were a tad harder than we have in the United States and the salsa was finely chopped peppers, not the sauce we are served in the States.
