Canadian Rockies with a toddler

2 Aug 2008  We wanted to make sure we could see a lot of things, but try not to wear out our toddler!
3.5 of 5 stars based on 3 votes

We visited the Canadian Rockies with an 18 month old.

  • 1. Baker Creek Chalets
Baker Creek Mountain Resort, Lake Louise

Wonderful place! We loved staying here! Great service and really really cute. Perfect for a toddler because we had a kitchen and separate room for sleeping! We stayed here the whole time and did day trips from here everyday.

  • 2. Baker Creek Bistro
The Bistro at Baker Creek, Lake Louise

Some of the best food I have ever had. This was not for kids, but we did bring our toddler and she was well behaved and they were open to her being there. I would only bring kids who can sit still and be fairly quiet for dinner.

  • 3. The Fairmont Banff Springs
    Fairmont Banff Springs, Banff

Here we just did a visit and did the Bow Falls Hike. It was just 20 minutes each way and very beautiful. Perfect for carrying a toddler on your back!

  • 4. Lake Louise Sightseeing Gondola
Lake Louise Sightseeing Gondola, Lake Louise

Perfect little cafeteria breakfast before getting on a really beautiful gondola. It is all enclosed so you don't have to worry about your little one jumping out.

  • 5. Melissa's Restaurant and Bar
    Melissa's Restaurant and Bar, Banff

Very nice place. The food was good and great for bringing kids!

  • 6. Johnston Canyon
    Johnston Canyon, Banff National Park

Johnston Canyon Lower Falls Hike - .6 mile each way. This was perfect for hauling a toddler on your back. Our toddler gets jumpy after about an hour in the pack!

  • 7. Icefields Parkway
    Icefields Parkway, Banff National Park

This was about 30 mins each way from our hotel. We also did a picnic at Peyto Lake. We did the Peyto Lake Hike at Bow Summit (30 mins each way).

  • 8. Lake Louise Station Restaurant
Lake Louise Station Restaurant, Lake Louise

Very tasty and also great for kids. We had a nice meal and very quick service.

  • 9. Yoho National Park

We visited Takakkaw Falls (10 minute stroll from parking lot). We also saw Emerald Lake and Natural Bridge along the way.

  • 10. Truffle Pigs Cafe
Truffle Pigs Bistro & Lounge, Field, Yoho National Park

LOVED this place! We stopped for lunch while visiting Yoho. What a fun little place to stop and enjoy!

  • 11. Kootenay National Park
    Kootenay National Park, British Columbia

We did the Marble Canyon Hike - Self-guided trail (0.6 mile each way) and Paint Pots Hike - Scenic one-km trail (20 minutes each way). Perfect little hikes to get a feel for the area!
