Cheap flights to Nagpur recently found by travellers
Arriving in Nagpur, India

Cheap flights to Nagpur, India are available through several major carriers. Nagpur flights arrive at Nagpur's Sonegaon Airport, which was recently renamed Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. Nagpur is an important regional commercial hub and the airport services thousands of travellers each day. Half-dozen domestic airlines and one international airline (Air Arabia) operate out of the airport. Jet Airways, Indigo, Spicejet and a handful of other domestic airlines run daily flights between Nagpur and major Indian cities, including nearby Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru.

The airport is located right at the edge of the main Nagpur city. Travelling from the airport to the city can be easily arranged at the prepaid taxi service counter outside the airport. These taxis are comfortable, although they tend to be slightly expensive. Budget travellers have the option of taking a three-wheeled auto-rickshaw from the airport, but be prepared to haggle heavily with the drivers who often inflate fares by more than 100%.

Getting Around Nagpur, India

As an economically significant city in the state of Maharashtra - India's financial hub - Nagpur is well-serviced with a efficient public transport system. The city operates more than 500 public buses that ply through virtually every part of the city. Travel via bus is extremely cheap, although the buses tend to be crowded and hot during peak hours.

Most tourists prefer to use private taxis or three-wheeled auto-rickshaws for moving within the city. Taxis can be identified by yellow and black markings and can be found on most street corners. Auto-rickshaws are smaller, three-wheeled vehicles. They are more affordable but not as comfortable as taxi cars, particularly in hot summer months. If you plan to travel via taxi, be sure to negotiate the price for your journey before you get into the vehicle as it is not custom to use electronic fare metres.

Tourists staying for more than a few days can hire a car with a driver for quite cheap. Car hire or travel agencies can be found in most commercial areas of the city. For shorter distances, tourists can hop on board a cycle-rickshaw for a unique experience. Finally, there is always the option of walking from your hotel to nearby attractions.

Main attractions in Nagpur, India

After your Nagpur flight lands at the airport, you'll want to the most of your holiday and visit the city's many attractions. Nagpur has been continually inhabited for over 3,000 years. It was an important administrative centre during the Maratha rule of India in the 18th century. Buildings dating back several centuries dot the city, including a 400 year old Shiv Mandir, the Gajanan Maharaj Temple, and the early 19th century Sitabuldi Fort.

The biggest attraction in Nagpur, however, is the local wildlife. Nagpur is often called the 'Tiger Capital of India' due to the abundance of tigers around the city's forests. Tadoba National Park is the area's main wildlife park that operates a very popular safari. Trained local guides take small groups into the wild to see the sights, usually on elephant back or open-top 4x4 vehicles. The chances of spotting a tiger are quite high, particularly in summer months.

Shopping, Dining and Night Life in Nagpur, India

By seeking out cheap flights to Nagpur, travellers can not only have the added benefit of saving money on their trip, but it can also mean affording to splurge on some extras like shopping and dining.

There is a large and spread out shopping market in Nagpur. If you are looking for the best possible experience try visiting the Empress City Mall or Nagpur Central. For a more authentic shopping experience, visit the commercial areas of Sitabuldi, Jaripatka, and Sadar that sell local handicrafts as well as brand name commercial products.

Tourists looking for more tame fare will find lots to love at Barbeque, which sells quality Indian cuisine, Nanking (Chinese), and Hibiscus (International).

Nightlife in Nagpur, unfortunately, is virtually absent. Some new establishments such Fionna, Elements and Nyne are trying to change that by bringing nightlife to the city.
