Airport Arrival

The Mangalore Airport welcomes the arrival of cheap flights to Mangalore on one of its two table-top runways. The new airport terminal, built in 2009, is fully air-conditioned and has two aerobridges; it can accommodate up to 150 passengers taking international Mangalore flights, and up to 400 passengers for domestic flights. It currently handles an annual traffic of 930,000 passengers, with this figure constantly on the rise. The central part of Mangalore is located about 19 kilometres away from the airport. To get there, you can board the city-operated bus, or use the 24-hour prepaid taxi service at the airport counter.

Getting Around the City

Mangalore has a well-equipped transportation system. Privately-owned city buses run frequently from the Central Bus Stand to all the major parts of the city. In addition, express buses take you from Mangalore to the neighbouring cities. This is the cheapest way of getting around, but you might have to put up with the crowds. It is important to confirm the bus’s destination before boarding, as the numbering system is in the local language Kannada only. If you want to travel in convenience and minimize road time after saving on cheap tickets to Mangalore, hire an auto-rickshaw or taxi. Taxis charge a fixed price based on the distance covered; agree on a price with the driver before setting off. You also have the option of renting a car and driving around to explore the city.
