It's less common for travellers to rent vehicles, but this is an option for some. The Mass Rapid Transit system is one of the best routes to getting around Singapore. This light rail transit system connects most areas of the city. It's very affordable and fast. The underground stations have various stops along the route, making it easy to plan your movements. Buses are widely available, but may be harder to use overall. Taxis are reliable but more expensive. You will need to book these in advance. There are also bumboats worth using, at least for the view. These will take you down the Singapore River inexpensively.

For those looking for beaches, visit Sentosa. If you're after a historical lesson, visit Bras Basah, an area on the north side of the river with a number of old buildings and museums. You can explore the natural components of the area with a trip to Singapore Zoo, the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve or to the Jurong Bird Park. Visit Garden City to see a Japanese garden.

Also important is a visit to the various temples, mosques and churches throughout the city. You may wish to visit the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery and the Burmese Buddhist Temple in Balestier. There are numerous temples throughout the city, including the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple. There are numerous 24-hour clubs here. Most of the nightlife in the city is near the three Quays. Fridays are the nights to head out on the town.
