Mauritius is served by S. Seewoosagur Ram. Intl Airport (Mahebourg)

Arriving in Mauritius

Getting cheap flights to Mauritius is an excellent way to explore this beautiful, multicultural island, which is located in the Indian Ocean. The island government controls several islands in the area, but Mauritius is an excellent place to start for most tourists. Most visitors don’t need visas to visit, making it easy to enjoy a trip here.

To get to the island, Mauritius flights will likely arrive at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). This airport is located on the Southeast area of the island. Numerous international airlines offer flights into and out of the island, including Air Mauritius, Air Austral, Air Seychelles, Egypt Air and Air India. Flights from Asia and Europe arrive daily at this airport.

Getting Around Mauritius

Once you disembark from Mauritius flights, you can take a bus or a taxi into the urban areas. You can also easily get around by bike or scooter. You can rent these at the airport or at various destinations throughout the city. Also, keep in mind that some individuals use helicopters to travel from one island to the other.

For those renting a vehicle or taking a taxi, the road system is rather simple. The major highway runs north to south. This is a more expensive option than using the public bus system, though. The bus service is inexpensive and reliable. You may also wish to travel by boat, especially if you are travelling from one island to another. Yacht charters are even a popular way to get into the city.

Main Attractions in Mauritius

The main attraction area for tourists is the northern region. You'll want to visit Grand Bay, a large shopping and leisure area and Pereybere, which is a public beach in the area. Also, be sure to visit the Chateau de Labourdonnais, which is a large museum, garden and restaurant, with a distillery onsite.

Plan to go deep-sea fishing for tuna, dolphinfish and even sharks. For more outdoor adventure, you can take a safari jeep right into the national reserve park on the west coast of the island. You may also want to parasail, go for an underwater walk or use a semi-submersible scooter, all of which is available at Grand Baie. You should also visit L'Aventure du Sucre, a modern exhibition location that is near an old sugar mill or visit the Dutch Ruins and the Waterpark Leisure Village.

Shopping, Dining and Night Life in Mauritius

With the money saved on cheap flights to Mauritius, you'll have no reason not to indulge in all the city has to offer. The Caudan Waterfront is an excellent place to visit for the shops. There's also a number of restaurants here and local entertainment. Visit the Bazaar of Port Louis as well. Some of the cheapest and most delicious food you will find is here. There are also fun things to do at night. Pereybere and Grand Bay offer a number of restaurants, discos and bars that are simply perfect for a night out on the town.

With cheap tickets to Mauritius available, you'll have time and money to spend relaxing and unwinding at the various clubs and bars in the area. The northern area tends to be more touristic, but all the beaches and shopping centres offer something to do throughout the day and night.
