We are staying with you for two nights in February and have arranged for chimpanzee treks. What do you recommend for clothing and gear? We will have been to see the gorillas, and the lodge there provides protective clothing, such as jackets and gaiters. Do we need those to go on Chimp treks, and if so, can we get them at your Lodge? Thank you very much.
Thanks for getting in touch.
Yes you will need to have gaiters, pants and jackets. We recommend bringing your own trekking gear as we do not sell them at our lodge.
Hope this helps.
We were there in August and it was quite cool and rainy. We wore goretex parkas, gaters, and heavy boots, and did quite a bit of scrambling through brush and up and down steep and muddy hillsides. Much rougher and more strenuous than the gorilaa trek we did a few days later.
Regular hiking shoes and regular hiking clothing will suffice. It's much warmer in nyungwe than the gorillas so jackets aren't neeeded, bit the lodge will sell you some if you do require them if it's pouring. Gaiters aren't necessary as the trail for the chimps is established, unlike the gorillas
