Exchanging US dollars to Ringgits...

I realize one can get better rates outside of the hotel. Is there a major difference in exchange rates between the money changers in Batu Ferringhi and Georgetown?

Unsure, but there are plenty of licences money changers in Georgetown, so I would expect the rate to be better there than in the resorts!

Thanks for all the quick replies. Will catch the hotel shuttle the morning after we check in and see the rates in Georgetown. Will check out Ocean Jupiter's rate before we go just to compare how different the rates are.

Yes, you will get a better exchange rate in Georgetown than at Batu Ferringhi. They are more competitive. You'll need to shop around.

The exchange rates in the hotel were 5.5 ringgit to one pound sterling....and 5.7 elsewhere so not too much to bother you and saves searching for other money changers . The only problem we found was that the hotel only wanted to exchange small amounts ie. £ 100

I've not changed any money this time so not able to commend on the question. But you can check out some money changer across the road. Sorry, can't help you on this matter.

Typically you will get a higher exchange rate in Georgetown but since I have not used money exchangers in Batu Ferringi, I can’t speak to what that difference is. We did some exchange in Georgetown and we also used our BofA Travel Visa which does not have foreign transaction fees whenever we could charge.

If you are referring to US dollars exchanged for Ringgits for your shopping and eating purposes, there really is not much difference.

However, the local money changers should give you a slightly better deal than in your hotel ..
