I’m trying to decide between Tamassa and Ravenela Attitude to stay for our Homeymoon. What are the big differences. Between the west coast and southern area of Mauritius?
I heard when out there a few weeks ago that Tamassa is now not going to close ! I did not detect much need for renovation so I'm not surprised but it may be worth checking with the hotel to be sure
Tamassa - more ' away from it all ' , one of just four luxury hotels on that stretch of coast , more nature nearby , generally an impressive hotel , great to walk along an unspoilt beach ( after passing the next-door hotel ) , pretty good for snorkelling off the beach at high tide and a good AI package . Go for a superior room upgrade .
West coast ( I don't know Ravenala ) - more local bars and restaurants , more crowded , hotels
Two years ago, we drove around the island and visited both Tamassa and Ravenala (among other hotels) to choose where to stay for our next Anniversary. The Tamassa won us over, not only because the hotel, location and beach where beautiful but mainly because the service we got, just as a walk-in visitor was so welcoming, being given a free drink and then shown around the whole property. The Ravenala, however, just seemed average.
We chose last year to stay at Tamassa and absolutely made the right choice. Of all the hotels we've stayed in around the world, Tamassa is the best. There is a reason why it gets a 5* rating on Tripadvisor.
We are now going to book it for our 30th wedding anniversary this May.
Hope this helps. Perhaps if your Honeymoon is in May we might see you.
If you want things to do then the west may be best as it is more developed but for a quiet, lazy holiday choose the south. The Tamassa hotel is excellent but be aware it is closed from May until September this year in order to upgrade certain facilities
