England

Planning to stay in Washington and really keen to visit Monocacy for a day trip. Is this possible using public transport as no one in our party can drive?

Get a train from DC to Frederick and get Uber out. To be honest from center of town it's only 2.5 mile at the most

Monocacy National Battlefield is on the southern edge of Frederick, MD, which is about 40 miles north of Washington. There may be a bus to Frederick, but it would a long walk to the battlefield. I would check with the Smithsonian if you will be here around July 9th. They sometimes run a bus tour of Early’s raid on Washington. There is a pick up at a local hotel in Washington, then they head off to Frederick and the battlefield. After Frederick, they follow Earlly’s route to Washington, and visit Fort Stevens as the last stop, then back to your point origin. I hope this is of some help.

I think you will want to hire Lyft or Uber. The battlefield is worth seeing.
