It is necessary to purchase a package? Will I get the same experience if I just buy the general admission tickets?

Absolutely bother to get a package. Seating at the luau isn't terribly important (it's a very good space and there aren't really "nosebleed" seats), but aside from being helpful and full of information, the tour guides provide one very important service - events in the park itself happen on a schedule. Your tour is automatically on a schedule. You would have to plan seeing the park pretty carefully to actually participate in the various events happening at various times. Unless you strongly prefer to spend a lot of time on your own (and wouldn't mind going twice), the tour is totally worth it.

You can buy the admission only but will not be able to luau or see the show. The show is a must see. It’s worth every penny.

It is possible to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center without purchasing a package. If you check online you will find there several options available-some including the luau and others not. If you are not purchasing your tickets through a group you will find a small cost savings doing this. The discount is at the actual center's site rather than one of the agencies.

There are eight different levels of ticketing with seven including the evening show.and dinner. Some of these include having a guide while others suggest a n/c app to help you decide what you'd like to do. One additional advantage to these seven is that transportation is available from Honolulu if needed (with additional charge). The eighth option also suggests using the app but is entirely self guided. It does not include either a dinner or the evening show. Those who have been at the Center on an earlier occasion may prefer this option. Regardless of the choice you make, be sure to visit the Samoan pavilion and watch their show. It was the highlight of our visit this year.

The package deal was the best for a small group tour with your own two guides who told you what was going on and took you from one spot to the next, plus you get best seats for the entertainment and dinner. Plus they gave us gifts that were a nice surprise!

Certainly the Luau to include the theatre was worth it in my view. We really enjoyed the theatre

I don't think it's absolutely necessary if you just want to experience the park....but I would definitely say for the best experience, the packages are worth it

You can do just the park, or the park and the luau, the luau and the theatrical performance (which is really good). Mix and match. You'll save some cash with a package.
