Kimpton Taconic Hotel Questions & Answers

Clinton, New Jersey

My wife is not a skier - we plan on visiting the week between Christmas and New years - what are the options for her to do while the kids and I are on the slopes? I chose local to Manchester with the hope that there would be some sort of amenities or things to do......thanks

Dear Future Guest,

There are many different indoor/non-skier activities in the area. Of course there is Outlet shopping but there are also several great boutique stores that include Vermont made products. The Northshire Bookstore is a staple when traveling to the area.

Visit HiIdene, the Robert Todd Lincoln Estate which includes tours of the historic estate, a restored Pullman's car and their goat farm. Southern Vermont Arts Center displays national and local artist in many mediums. Learn to blow glass at Manchester Hot Glass. All these and many more unique experiences are within a mile of the hotel.

If you want to be outdoors but don't like to ski, strap on some snowshoes, hitch a ride on a sleigh, ride to your hearts content on a snowmobile or take a leisurely hike to the base of Mount Equinox located right behind the hotel.

Hope to see you soon.

Warmest Regards,

John Burnham

Agreed that the outlet offerings have thinned dramatically, and that outlet shopping is not the draw it used to be in Manchester. There are other options, though - a spa day at The Equinox, The Vermont Country Store is exciting for some, there is antiquing, and if you are willing to drive for an hour, King Arthur Flour in Norwich for bakers and a Simon Pearce Gallery and Shop for everyone in Quechee. There is quite a lot to do if you're not a skier.

Although there are still a number of outlet stores in Manchester there are only about 50% of what they used to have 10 years ago. They're trying to bring things back with the addition of The Taconic and another new hotel currently being build near the round-a-bout in the heart of town. Plenty of restaurants and bars in and around town.

Manchester is a shopper's paradise. Every major designer/brand seems to have an outlet. There is a vibrant art community in Manchester and several museums. I think that is pretty much all there is for a winter traveler and non-skier.
