Took me about 45 minutes to get downtown due to 5:00 pm traffic.

Yes. About 15 minutes, but afternoon traffic from 3:00- 6:00 could easily turn 15 into 30-45.

It's about a 15 - 20 minute drive. If you're on the roads during the weekday rush, the ride would be longer.

Once, I sat behind the steering-wheel for an hour. Since I'm not a resident, I didn't know of the faster local routes.

Either way, I had a great time visiting Greenville.

It appears to be between 10-11 miles from the center of Greenville, SC, which I assume would be the downtown area. If you go on Google maps and just put a town's name in, it will take you to the geographic center of that town. Hope that helps!
