Hi William T

As we are located landside, you do indeed need to pass through security/customs and therefore have a valid visa to enter the UK.

Kind regards

Yes you do. Depending on which airline you are traveling with you might even have to transfer terminals once past security. We took the train with out any trouble. The next morning we had an early morning flight and the train was not yet working so we took the bus

Let me add that the Heathrow Express train does go right to Terminal 4, and you do not have to pay (despite the incorrect information given to us by a couple of Heathrow employees). Also, getting back to your departure terminal

from Terminal 4 is very clearly marked, and very easy to maneuver, although it is does involve a good big of walking!

We were just through there in October, in transit from Athens to the US, and we had to go through customs/Immigration. We love Yotel, but we had a heck of a time trying to find someone to tell us how to get there. Good luck!

glad to see this thread.I am doing Boston- Heathrow--Cape Town and with a 10-12 hour layover NO NOT want to hang around the airport for that long. Thinking of a "pod" to sleep and freshen up for 4-6 hours.
