My wife and I are flying in and out of Heathrow here in a few months and are considering staying here. You mention it took a while to get to Terminal 5. We are flying into Terminal 3 one night about 11PM and out of Terminal 5 about 11AM the next day. Did you take advantage of the underground transports or did you use the shuttle buses between terminals? Thank for any help. I've never had to transfer between terminals at Heathrow before.
I would take the underground transport for an 11am flight! (Not an option for me because I took a 7am flight) its by far the easiest. Buses can be unreliable in terms of arrival and take about 25 min to go from terminal 3 to terminal 5. If you go by bus and give yourself some buffer time you should be fine. We did it all at 4am and it still was relatively easy!
We used the train system, which was fine.
Thanks so much. Good advise. I'll make sure to leave plenty of time. I was going to hit a lounge or two for breakfast prior to our 11AM flight so I was going to leave 3 hours early just to make sure I had time. Luckily we will be flying business so we can utilize the priority security lines which will hopefully save us some time.
the transfer trains were running rarely because of a shortage of drivers and that could have resulted in missing of flight. I had to get a taxi which cost 20 quid. the terminals can be very far apart. make sure you check out early and don't rely on the train to transfer you. have a back up plan.
