What airport would we fly into? And how far from hotel? Then how far from Bear Tooth Pass, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone? What is best time to come in June or July?
Hello, You can fly into Billings,MT. it's about 60 miles north of Rocky Fork Inn. The Beartooth Hwy starts right there, it is about 90 miles to Tower Junction (Roosevelt Lodge) in Yellowstone. About 30 miles to Mammoth Hot Springs and Gardiner,MT. From there it is about 400 miles north to Glacier.
Best time of year is first 2 weeks in July for Bikers as there is little rain. The Beartooth Hwy is only open from June to Sept. I went the day after 4th of July and it was pretty empty as every one leaves then and there is a lull for a week or so until the crowds pick up.
Or you can do like the above Post. From Jackson you go north to Grand Tetons (about 40 miles) and continue up into Yellowstone (about 90 miles) and out the Northeast entrance Yellowstone. The Beartooth starts just outside that entrance and it is about 90 miles to Red Lodge. Hope this helps..
We flew into Jackson, WY because we were renting a motorcycle there and we really like the area. Also we generally go mid-August - less crowds! If you fly into Jackson - it is several hours to Bear Tooth pass and depending on the time of year you go it can be a long ride!! There may be a better airport option for you depending on how you make your traveling plans,
