Why do you hold $150 on a guest's debit card when they pre-paid for the room for a couple of nights, fees, taxes & all?! That's very high! I called to see if a cash deposit could be left instead or another arrangement could be made, I was told, "No!" I canceled my entire reservation!
If you know anything about the clientele and the problems they may cause you will understand that if guest break something or take something from the room, this hold helps the hotel cover cost. You get a lot of young 21-25 people who can (and probably have) done a lot of damage/theft so its understandable.
