If we're staying during November, should we bring/buy wood for the fireplace? Can we scavenge for wood in surrounding forest? Will it be snowing by then?Thinking about staying in Alpine Lodge.
Thanks, Mary T! Mary is right, we have firewood for $7.00 a bundle (includes firestarter log). You can bring your own if you prefer. You might be able to find some in the surrounding forest, but it might be wet, so I don't recommend it. We could have snow in November, but again, Mary is correct in saying our weather is unpredictable. We have El Nino conditions this year, so if it is cold enough, we will probably get some snow.
Alpine Lodge is a great choice! It has a large open fireplace that everyone can gather around for a cozy mountain vaca! Hope to see you soon!
If $6-10 per fire is an issue, then consider:
The wood prices were about $6 for a small bundle nearby, but cheaper at larger-town grocery store. Convenience has a price.
Scavenged wood could be a lot of work and messy. If you have the time and the inclination, go for it.
If you have wood and the room to transport it, then you have the best scenario.
Example #1: I'm into wine. Can I buy wine up there? Yes. Can I buy wine I like? Maybe, but it's expensive. Personally, I always carry. Chasing down good wine and paying 2-3 times for it isn't worth it to me.
Example #2: I'm headed to Portland in a few hours. 2 weeks ago, I "saved" $3 on the same trip by mindlessly choosing the cheapest car. That cost me over 2 hours (total) because I had to wait for a shuttle and ride that shuttle 15 minutes each way. Plus a tip each time. What is YOUR time worth?
