Is there a fee for entrance? are there any self guided tours?
This is free, they also have guided tours across the Bay which is by boat, and there is a very reasonable fee for the transportation. Check out their website for happenings on your vacation dates. This is a great place to see, touch and learn about the sea life and history of this area.
the one in Homer is totally free to guests with no fees of any sort
there is a gift shop of course where you can purchase books or posters or some Alaska items like fireweed honey
and they do have "events" like guided walks to see birds and others which are posted daily and probably on their web site
great great spot--- they also partner with the Wynn Nature center up on a bluff to do guided nature walks which are also totally free...
Tours are self guided. Fees were about 18.00 for a senior
When I described the alaskan studies for Coastal Studies I had confused it with the Alaskan Island and Ocean center. Both places are fantastic. The Island and Ocean center has a fabulous display like a mini museum. The day we went we did not pay a fee because there was an event that we were attending at the Islands and Ocean Center. As for the Alaskan Coastal Center we took one of their tours from the yurt on the spit. The tour cost money , but not much. They had other tours that cost more. We took a dock tour to explore the creatures that live under the dock attached to the pilings and floats. Had a great time even though it is geared towards younger audiences. Both locations are worth a stop.
