What is the best inexpensive place to get breakfast (Western or Japanese style) near the hotel before a day of sightseeing?
The breakfast at the hotel is great
Inexpensive - 7/11 just around the corner, try "Onigiri" which comes in many different variety, my recommendation is "tuna-mayo" or "negi-toro (raw tuna tartar with spring onion)" or "ume (pickled plum)" but if you are not up for fish in the morning they have many bread / yogurt / juice / individually packaged cereals... etc.
We ordered off their alacarte menu.
We ate at Toru Cafe across the street from the hotel - Great coffee and egg sandwiches.
The hotel is only a 12min walk from the main station which has numerous food outlets.
alternatively the subway is only two minutes walk away and a short few stations to the city centre.
The large shopping centers have great fresh food halls in the basement and restaurants on top floor.
Surprisingly you can get very good coffee in japan, in specialist shops.
We tended to buy food at the 7 /11 next door , keep it the fridge overnight and eat in the room before heading off
The Kanra is about 10-12 minutes walk from the main train station, there are many eateries in the area, including a bakery serving coffee croissant etc. so if you don't want to eat at the hotel, where the breakfast is good, both Japanese and western, not sure of the food pricing in the hotel - did eat there but didn't take note - there are many other options.
There is a Starbucks, McDonalds and a French bakery all right together about a 3-5 minute walk from the hotel. We usually just got coffee and a scone or bakery item, but McDonalds would have eggs, etc.
