Hello, in your review you mentioned there are several eateries around hotel. Would you be so kind and advise us (family of 2+2) where would be not expensive and still good. we don't seek nobelty or high-end restaurants. the modest the better, since we are also modest. We are staying in Takayama 2 nights. Thank you. Andrej
When you walk up to the old town the streets are crowded with restaurants. The restaurants specialised in meat are a bit more expensive. But those are the ones that are open later than other restaurants. Takayama seems to be a bit focused on day trip tourists. Did you see my review of the small, cheap restaurant with tasty food? Difficult to find but extremely goof value! I hope my response was in time, andrej.
We had simple late lunch, just buy a pack of sushi in a local family-run shop. It was yummy.
For dinner, we mainly had Hida beef. I only recommend "Yamatake Shoten" coz it is more localized and worth for money. You can search this restaurant from tripadvisor and see different comments including mine.
We didn't have ramen there but we saw the price lists when passing by restaurants, not expensive.
For your information: we tried the Hida beef bun twice (different shops, one at the bus terminal and the other at old town). We didn't like it at all.
There are shops selling BBQ Hida beef. You can try.
(Most shops close at around 5:00 p.m. except restaurants and cafes)
You can find several restaurant around the hotel. But i recommend you to try takayama ramen well u need to walk a bit futher but it worth it. You can ask for map in tourist information center infront of the takayama station which they will give you list and map of restaurant around.
