I think u can hire only driver , car or tuk tuk . Asking hotel staffs , i think they can arrange for you . Its not far from Varanasri , may take 3 hrs for visit , but its depend on yr interesting too . i took last day visit Saranath before i fly back . Sarnath place is not large , u can walk around , read some information from lonely planet . not too complicate :) and there has museum there too , they have detail , stories and some information . easy to understand .

I suggest go only for a registered guide to take you around Sarnath. However, there are some guides who will not enter the temple. Better to very clearly clarify before hiring one.

A good guide is all you need in Sarnath. You can easily get there by OLA/local taxi. I hired an auto till Godowlia chowk for Rs. 200 from there.

Best to just hire a car. There are local guides everywhere, and the museum is well signposted and has extensive explanations for all its exhibits.

Thanks, Vitu and Lois. I see there are a lot of organized tours but it sounds like maybe the simple option would be more enjoyable.

We only had a driver. Frankly, I don't think one really needs a guide there. The site is not large or complicated and I thought the museum had decent signage.
