We arrive to Oslo soon. We will arrive at Rygge airport at night next week and will be getting the express coach to the central bus terminal at 11:45pm. I assume that we will arrive at the central bus station at 12:45am. Is it safe to walk through the city with our suitcase from the station to the hotel this late at night? Or should we look for alternative travel?
Yes. It's only a few hundred metres up the main well lit thoroughfare of Oslo.
I used to walk from the central station to the hotel later than this time very safely.
It's around 10 minutes walk only.
Oslo is generally very safe, even at night. You would be fine walking to the hotel from central station. The walk is not too long, but at night and with luggage, maybe a taxi would be easier. Again though, you could do the walk safely for sure. Best of luck and enjoy Oslo! The hotel is in a great location!
Short uphill walk.
Yes, as the other folks have said, it's only a few hard yards from the station in a well lit, heavily traveled street. I would have no hesitation making this jaunt with the usual precautions in mind.
My family and I found the city to be very safe.
We walked a little less than 1 kilometer from Central Station very early in the morning (appx 4:00 am) heading toward city center on Karl Johan's Gate.) We found it to be very safe. The walk is slightly uphill from central station to city center.
