Let's start with the food. It was apparent that significant budget cuts were made as the majority of the food was subpar. The prime rib and filet mignon both had a lot of fat and gristle, and neither was cooked correctly. The lobster tail in the MDR (cut to just one night) was laughably tiny. Desserts were pretty, but cake were dry and the icing overly sweet. The creme brulee wasn't cooked correctly-not set up and the sugar not crisp. Bacon was cheap and tasteless. The Chef's table was fantastic, so we know that someone on the ship knows how to cook. Service was equally bad, with much of the crew that was walking around (not the stewards) didn't care about the guest experience. One got on an elevator in front of us with a mop and bucket, rather than wait for a different elevator like other cruise lines staff. Many times they blocked aisles or didn't step aside for guests to pass. The captain was qualified, but no personality and few announcements. Louie, the Cruise Director, was exceptionally annoying and obnoxious. There was no beverage service at the buffet or pool like other cruise lines offer. We had to stand in line and wait. The photographers accosted everyone that walked by trying to sell photos. At breakfast in the MDR, my eggs were hard (and overdone) instead of soft boiled as ordered. I had to ask twice for grapefruit. Although early and the MDR was basically empty, we were seated by serving station instead of a window. Seafood Shack didn't activate our buzzer when lobster roll was ready and after 20 minutes we found it under a heat lamp. It was awful-too much dressing. Vaping and smoking in restricted places was not enforced, and it reeked. There was no acknowledgment of our anniversary or birthday even though we included on our booking. Regarding the ship, there is no size inclusivity in the gift shops and no Christmas ornament selection. Chairs, especially by Pig & Anchor are too narrow for anyone who is a little overweight. Lounge chairs on Havana cabana were too low for people with mobility issues to get down and up again so the swing was the only option for seating and there was only one. The captain's announcements were only hearable in hallways and not cabins. The mattress was horrible and messed up our backs, even though our steward brought us a mattress topper. Hot tubs had lukewarm water. Several lockers in the Spa had locks that didn't work. JiJi's at lunch was under the playground and was loud and shaking and a bad experience. MDR tables for two were NOT private. It was more like sharing a table for 6 with 2" between. Piped in music was bad-I realize this is subjective, but why not play music with a vacation vibe instead of country or hard rock? I wish that Carnival would actually read and sincerely accept that there were significant issues instead of dismissing out of hand. Admit there were problems and work to address them. We know from the FB group that many people are positive and will pile on praise, but there were others who had a similar experience to ours. At this time, under no circumstances will we consider sailing with Carnival again. We had fairly low expectations and understand that there are supply chain issues and crew shortages, so were willing to overlook some of the problems, but Carnival failed to meet our low expectations. This was the worst cruise we've ever been on.

I find it hard to really find negatives when you've just been on a cruise with your kids and had to disconnect from the world. First, cruises are a great family trip and everyone gets to eat whatever they want and you can disconnect (if you choose) from work and responsibilities for the week. This was our second cruise with our kids and they loved it for those reasons. The Family Harbor was probably the best part about the Carnival Vista. It was a place with couches and tables to play games and with snacks and a soft serve ice cream machine (we enjoyed that). Everything else about the Carnival Vista was a noticeable step below our experience with other cruise lines. Our room attendant and our main dining staff were great, but all other staff on the boat looked so tired and overworked that they didn't have much cheer to offer. We didn't have a great experience with food (except for the 24hr fresh pizza on deck 10 at the back of the boat). We will cruise again, it just won't be on Carnival.

Room Steward was never around but always left us ice as we asked and the rooms always looked good (except for the underwear my son found behind the TV) Not sure anyone would think to look in that crevice but hey. I will say that the showers in two of the three rooms, didn't drain well and feet were underwater after the shower. A/C worked great though. Lead server for our anytime dining was Arzi and she was fantastic. Very personable, always made us feel welcomed. Performances were not as great as previous ships but service was great. Food was good not great overall. I'm guessing it was the week long trip and different itinerary, but the bars all closed early and there didn't seem to be as many bar runners at times, maybe that was just because there are so many passengers on the ship. Fun squad and the cruise director Louis were great, very enthusiastic and very hard working, always "in character". But this cruise had a different vibe than my shorter trips and there weren't as many pool party type events. Lots of trivia though. Comedians were hit or miss. Spike Davis was great, Karl Faulkenberry was good. Randy Loubis was not great, jokes were "borrowed". Dino Vigo was bad to the point I laughed more at the people leaving his show that at his jokes. You have lost the crowd when you have to poorly explain your heritage to validate your onslaught of race jokes. Jokes were fine, it was adult show and I love dark humor, but it was a know your audience type situation, because they were walking out in droves. Not a fan of the layout of the ship in general, lots of people, but the advantage is due to bad layout there are places that are very isolated. Guy's bbq for example is out of the way and never very busy. The lanai is a great place to take a siesta because it is more quiet than the adult only section. Overall the ship is good, the crew is awesome, and the trip was super relaxing. Galveston is however not as convenient as Miami. I will avoid the port in the future.

It was second time for 7-day Western Caribbean on another ship - Vista. The only complaint is that its overcrowded and quality of people seems to be deteriorated.
