We Do NOT recommend booking an excursion through Royal Caribbean. Our family booked 14 passes to Atlantis through RCCL for a Thanksgiving family cruise and they cancelled our tickets. RCCL sent us an email advertising a special Price for Atlantis day pass by booking through them. Two weeks later they send an email saying there was a “glitch” and they were canceling our booking. They offered a $50 cabin credit in return for their mistake. After speaking to three different people with RCCL they did not budge or offer any other solution to this undesirable incident! It completely erodes your trust in RCCL and for sure in the Excursion booking experience! There is just no such thing as excellent customer service any more. I never would have expected this from RCCL! We are Diamond Plus with Royal so have plenty of experience with them. But, this changes the paradigm! Apparently the cruise lines do not have any laws protecting the consumers.

We chose this cruise because it leaves out of Galveston and we wanted to get away for a few days. This was our 3rd time on the Adventure of the Seas and it was the worst. We have stayed a inside, window and balcony room on this ship. The ship is old but most of the staff is nice. However each time the smoking gets worse. When you step onto the ship you can smell the smoking that rises up the stairs onto the Promenade (the casino can be accessed by two different floors-there are four different ways to enter casino). No gambling is allowed unless the ship is at sea-but the smokers were already inside smoking before we left the port! When the casino opens the smokers walk around while smoking making the already crowed narrow aisles unbearable. If you complain-the workers say they can do NOTHING about it. There is a small no-smoking area in the casino-but smokers sit there as well and no one on staff cares to do anything about it. They have also taken away the wipes that they used to have-so unless you want to sit at a dirty slot machine (ashes, drink rings, finger smears etc.) bring your own wipes. There is NO one to even pick up empty glasses or ash trays. Also you will have to get your own drinks. Around the 16+ only pool area-there are children running around looking for their parents; there were people vaping and one man smoking cigars. I told the bartender and again nothing was said. Security is a joke-the only time I saw them was outside our room (two doors down) after midnight talking to a screaming passenger (this went on for 10 minutes). This did not bother me as kids usually were outside running up and down the halls just after 1am-who wants to sleep anyway? To be fair there is not a lot for children/teens to do on this ship so they run up and down the halls in packs drinking, eating pizza and trying to find as many cruising ducks as they can. There was a very large contingent of rude and inconsiderate guests on our cruise which is not the cruise line's fault but it adds to the unpleasantness. As for the food-well it appears they have changed the menu in order to save money. I have been cruising for over 30 years and the quality has decreased. Also, why are there so many Indian food options? The head chef for the Main dining and the Windjammer are from India-so maybe that is why it is served so often. There are a few good protein options in the Main dining room but the chicken was tough (the people at our table called it rubber chicken). The seafood was of lower quality and the seafood cake that was served in the main dining room had too much salmon. On the Windjammer there was also a seafood cake that was shaped differently but is was also mostly salmon-not good. I know they have to use the leftovers-but that salmon was not good. Needles to say I ate a lot of pizza which was ok but it lacked sauce, cheese and toppings (see picture below). I do not think I will be sailing on this ship again-it is tired and old and just not worth the $$.

Pros: Buffet food: good variety, plentiful, tasty Ports: Visited 5 ports in 6 days, taxis that met us at ports completely gauging tourists, we walked past them and found other transport each time ( $125 USD for a taxi to drive 4 people 40 minutes there and back) Cons: Service: Room cleaner was awful, didn't know what he was doing and made new mistakes everyday Medical Team: Rude, wrote wrong diagnosis on receipt Customer service team: didn't call back and took over an hour to get through to on phone prior to the trip Dining room food: extremely slow - 2.5 hr wait, food cold and not good, buffet much better Room: No noise control, we could hear every little cough next door Shower: Water not hot until we called service team, whole unit was replaced Safe: Not working TV: No remote control Excursions: 2 cancelled at last minute 2 adult female world travellers

First of all- staff was great- our waiters Jason and Mark were awesome- all the other staff on board were fantastic. The dancers and performers were great. The time organization and general flow of events were TERRIBLE- The weather was not great and we didnt get to port in costa maya- not the boats fault- but there was no backup plan for fun activities. We have two girls age 6 and 12- the twelve year old went to her teen zone the first night and didnt have any desire to go back- our 6 year old liked her kid zone- but it did not offer meal service , so we were left missing many different events and shows because kids camp wasnt open yet- or opened at times that interfered. The shows that we did get to see didnt make sense - all though the dancers and performers were fantastic- the story and productions didnt make any logical sense at all. Activities on the ship were not very good. we participated in several of the trivia games, hoping they would be good for the whole family- They were not- They were not fun or exciting, or in any way engaging for kids. The food choices were normal, but nothing was better than normal. Pools were okay, the hot tubs were all packed full all the time- even the adult pool (which is age 16+) If you have kids and the weather is too bad to use the pool - you are stuck with no activities. One of the activities was adult coloring- (fantastic. wow yipee) if I wanted to color i would do it at home!! The 16+ pool should be 21+ because you are left with a bunch of young weird boys checking out all the good looking girls . The list of negatives goes on and on- and I have never been so Disappointed. What a waste of our time off and hard earned money. Never in my life have I been so Angry about a vacation.

Before I get to the cruise itself, I must first comment on Royal Caribbean's customer service response via phone number-line. Horrible service line. Our trip was the 4 night Western Caribbean trip(Dec 22-26). During the black Friday sale, we decided to purchase our excursion and beverage pckg-discounts applied. My sisters and I, did this on separate accounts. No issues w/ card purchases a few days after. Nothing until a week or so later. We noticed money had been returned, removed, refunded again, and then withdrawn again. Leading to my account to be overdrawn. In reaching out to the company on Dec 5, in regards to this. After waiitng for over an 1hr to speak with someone, and being moved around to different depts, finally turned over to resolution dept and Glenda who said they aren't allowed to give last names, finally admitted to the "black friday glitch" and said we should have rcv'd emails(which of course that didnt happen, inspite of receiving all of their other marketing info"), did not get this bc it wasn't sent out. A refunded was supposedly issued within 7-14 days, here it is Jan 2, still waiitng for it. To add insult to injury, get on the boat-vacay and they happen to hit my sister's account again w/another wd for the beverage pckg. This time bc we are on boat, speak w/guest services, still took forever sighting no info from initial call w/glenda was in system, but sister should receive another refund for this within 3days. Nothing still, so before we even get to actual trip, be careful w/usinng your card with them. Because I have never experienced this type of issue when using a card for vacation w/ any company. This was not our 1st cruise, this was actually our 3rd, 2 with RC, and this by far was the worst experience-customer service wise. When I tried to fill out the survey, it had expired(go figure) ..didn't even realize it would since it had not been a wk or month of email for survey being sent. Now with cruise-actual trip. The suite was nice. Surprisingly enjoyed this. Jovan and Cesar were great servers for the Main dining room. However, the chef left much to desire with food proportion and quality of the dishes. The windjammer was ok. Just so many ppl so felt constricting at times w/ lines and all. The cafe promenade that stayed opened late, needed more friendly servers. And better variety of food choices. Understand they were tired, but you are still in a customer service profession. Room service friendly, but again lawd ..but I guess cut-backs are hitting everywhere. The captain was literally not playing with the navigation, because we have never been on a boat that felt them waves like that. Now I know the time we chose, was weather crazy, but I believe if he had slowed down alittle bit, everyone's stomachs would have been spared alittle more. They were offering medicine like it was water for the stomach! :( Excursion did have to get canceled due to the weather-water(waves-safety first we get it!) Entertainment was ok. First time catching a ice skating show, on water was interesting. That was cool, kudos to the skaters!. Silent party fun-dj did well mixing music. Thoroughly disappointed with departure procedures. We were rushed, stuffed, and harassed(Also, same feeling when returning to the boat from port of call stop). But it took 3-5 hrs to ensure everyone made it on the boat. And they packed and moved over 4000 off a ship withing 2hrs. Horrible. No one seemed to know where or how to do this in a manner that made sense. The workers were not helpful w/directions either. So it was all of us standing in long lines, trying to pull out sea card passes in order to leave ship. A headache. Overall, probably will be our last trip w/ Royal Caribbean. Between the issue w/cards and refund of money to cruise liner service, no need to try again! Good luck finding someone to speak w/ for customer service whether email or call.
