We took a ferry from Naples to Sorrento. It was a pleasant short ride. On arrival we were quite stunned to see that the old town is situated quite high up. We followed the crowd, walked for a short distance to the right and joined a queue to take a lift (small fee for use of lift) up to the street level.

There is a viewing terrace at the Villa Comunale Park, which is a short distance from the lift landing area. You get a breathtaking view of the gulf, the beach and the blue sky. There is also an option to walk up the stairs from the Marina to the Villa Comunale Park, which I will not recommend.

From the Villa Comunale Park we walked to the Piazza Sant Antonio, which is a pretty little square. Piazza Tasso is just a short walk from Piazza Sant Antonio.

From the road bridge at Piazza Tasso, we were rewarded with a stunning view to the Gulf of Naples looking through a steep cliff face as if someone had just sliced away part of the hill. It was just breathtaking!

Sorrento is a charming small town. Not as busy and crowded as Naples. We used it as a stopover to take a bus to Amalfi not knowing that it deserves more time to explore.

We would love to return another time and will spend a night at Sorrento.

Loved our experience with this fantastic family team. So much hard work and love goes into Francesco and Lia’s business. So many laughs throughout the day and lots to eat and drink! Go ahead and book this experience as you will not be disappointed. A great way to spend a day with people doing what they do best. Loved it! Thank you mammi, Pappi & Finn 🤣😎💜. Will be back one day, to visit the amazing farm shop that I know will be set up by then! Good luck with the next part of your journey x

    WOW.
We searched for places online where we could go to have a nice beach time and hidden places in the coast of Italy and when we saw this online.. OMG, and in person, even BETTER. Really easy to find BUT the path is very tricky, so, you have to be very steady. And if you go by summer, loads of sun screen!

My granddaughter and I wanted to eat lunch at a restaurant where Sophia Loren had eaten so we walked from Piazza Tasso Square to Marina Grande. The walk was through quiet streets and then down a paved path. We ate at Trattoria Da Emilia at the marina. The walk back was more challenging but it was worth every step.

We were married in the Chiostro... and it was beautiful! So romantic, it couldn't have been more perfect. The cloister is a charming, hidden treasure near the cliff edge. Entry is free and if you walk around you will also come across a photographic exhibition of pictures taken by a renowned Sorrento resident. Well worth a visit.

Very good limoncello. You can taste before you buy. Many of different bottles, not only limoncello. Nice for a present.

The top three reasons to go to Sorrento? The view, the view, and the view. Extraordinarily beautiful. See the Bay of Naples and the yachts and the diners and the blue, blue sea. Perfection.

This is Sorrento’s main street. It runs east and west from Piazza Tasso, where it is especially congested. It is lined with shops and cafes, and several key attraction sit on it.

Sadly, what you've read in the reviews is true: They've "cleaned" all of the foliage off of the ruins, basically laying them bare and eradicating all mystery and rustic atmosphere from the site. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's still an impressive visit. Oh and it's FREE. How many awesome things in this world are free? Not many.

Simply park across the street (if you have a car), cross the street, and you're there. You won't need more than an hour, but don't rush your visit. There's a stillness and peacefulness to it that you won't want to miss.

This was a lovely basilica to visit. It has so much detail inside. It has a downstairs crypt also with a statue of Saint Anthony.

Found this by accident while walking around Sorrento. Found it very interesting. There are “stations” where a video informs about various aspects of Sorrento and the videos we saw were in English. There isn’t a consistent timeline as you go around which is a little odd but not a show stopper. Worth a visit.
