Convenient to town, stunning scenery, great birding. I read a previous review that had Felix’s contact card and was fortunate he was available as he was remarkable- both incredibly knowledgeable with next- level birding skills but also a gentle demeanor that made me very comfortable. I mean after all you sort of want to like the guide you’re spending the day with and he’s definitely the one. Highly recommend both the reserve and Felix.

What a beautiful place! We spent over 3 hours in the forest and it was quite magical. We did get a guide - he was excellent, truly passionate about the forest, pointed so many things we would have missed, spent time explaining the ecosystem and the symbiotic relationships that made the forest really come to life. We came as a family of 4 and everyone, including the two teenagers, found the tour fascinating. The paths were not too busy, no lineups or human traffic jams like in other places, so we had plenty of moments of being by ourselves on the paths and enjoying the sounds, the views, the smells of the forest. Definitely recommend visiting and definitely recommend getting a guide

Lots of interesting facts with a well-informed guide. We learned a few things about butterflies that are little-known, as well as seeing species we had never encountered before.

Delightful visit to the Cloud forest with Victor (business card below) as our most capable tour guide. Not only was he knowledgeable as all guides are but his enthusiasm and demeanor seemed to be widely admired even by the other guides. A terrific ambassador for his country and the local community. Guides share hot spots with each other by phone or when passing so do yourself the favor of getting a guide. You have many choices between hotel recs, park employees etc but I found Victor on here and he was a bargain.

This was a really interesting tour. It takes about 45 minutes but we learnt so much. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared his passion for the subject easily. We’re not mega garden/plant enthusiasts but really enjoyed this visit.

Bat Jungle is an amazing place to visit in Monteverde for kids and adults. Vino is extremely knowledgeable. He is a scientist and advocate who will introduce you to the fascinating world of bats. It is very special to be able to watch live bats in action, in a dark environment: you see them with your own flash light flying and feeding and hanging in groups or alone, up close, inches away from where you stand. You'll learn why bats are so important to our planet and how to help protect them. This is a must see, especially after a morning or day watching birds, hiking, or adventuring. It is a privilege to experience the passion and life's work of someone dedicated to such an incredible and unique animal. There were two children on the trip, one about 4 and the other 6. Vino included them in the tour, and they were really excited about seeing bats in person.

Sorry to see low reviews of a unique little experience that we enjoyed. The staff was nice, enthusiastic, and extremely willing to share their. knowledge. You are required to really follow a guide through the exhibit, and they seem to care about the frogs and take very good care of them. These various frog species could not have been spotted, nor enjoyed, as easily out in the rainforest. It is unlikely that anyone could have seen all these varieties if they were not in these special glass habitats. We learned that the specimens are changed out every few weeks so no frog is subject to a confined lifetime. You receive a flashlight day and night to help spot them, but we definitely suggest you return between 6-8 for a night visit because their colosr are more vibrant in the dark. The guided afternoon visit probably lasted an hour and a half, and we self toured for about 45 minutes in the evening. There is a separate butterfly, bug and spider exhibit to enjoy at your leisure before you enter the frog area.

Although we lived in the area, we spent a night at Valle Escondido just for a treat. It was a lovely experience. Although a great many places in Costa Rica call themselves, "Eco" tourism hotels, this place takes very seriously being environmentally conscious. Although our quarters were very pleasant and the solar shower amazing; the real treat is wandering the grounds and seeing all the ways that the Hotel is integrating tourism with walking gently on the earth. Two examples are the water treatment system and the permaculture gardening. There are many more. If you want to be a conscious traveler you will feel very good and being there.

We explored the forest by day (unguided) and night (guided). The staff were very flexible and helpful in accommodating the needs of our group for the night walk.
The trails are well kept and marked, with trivia along the children's trail.
The night guide was very friendly and was keen to share his knowledge with us.

So my 17-year-old son and I were on a father-son trip. We drove by the pottery shop and I turned to my son and said let’s stop and smell some flowers, so I threw the car in reverse and we met Marcelo. He is an amazing human and probably one of the most passionate artists I have ever met about his work. We bought a couple of pieces that were very reasonably priced. If you get a chance to stop and support the Costa Rican arts that would be awesome

The cloud forest scenery was truly stunning, and the sheer diversity of vegetation was incredible, like nothing we had experienced before. We even encountered quetzals, the rare bird that everyone wants to see! The 8 well-designed walking bridges were a treat to experience.

An amazing place to explore the beautiful nature. Very kind people who are delighted to share their knowledge. We made the trails by day and by night and saw monkeys, armadillos, bats, frogs, beautiful birds, butterflies and definitely more than in the Monteverde Sanctuary. Absolutely recommended!!

A nice activity if you're looking for something quite leisurely with not as many tourists as the popular hotspots. There was about 10 people there at the busiest point, and just the 2 of us when we first got down there.

It costs a few dollars entrance fee. It is then roughly a 20 minute walk down a trail with a good few stairs to the waterfall. The trail is well maintained so there is no tricky or treacherous paths. The waterfall itself is in a really secluded spot with high banks on each side so it is a very relaxing place. You can stay for as long as you want and take a dip in the water if you want. Fair warning, it's cold. It's not really big enough to 'swim' in but you can definitely get in and float around and get underwater.

The walk is very scenic and there is also wildlife to see if you're lucky. We had an agouti run across our path and saw some Capuchin's very close, a much better view than on any of the guided tours we went on. The waterfall, and the small bridges over the stream are a great spot for photos.

Sarah's Gallery is a must do destination experience. A ten minute hike through lush forests and ficus trees to a hand built home filled with art of the cloud forest beauty. We arrived in October 2021. The gallery had been closed during the pandemic, but we arrived fully vaccinated, masked and she welcomed us in. She was show casing a new Pandemic series. I found amusing; the world seen through mobile devices series. Sarah is a delight. I loved my adventure to the gallery at the top of the Cloud forest.
