We had a very greate experience at Aromas. We found a pretty fabric on the day we were going home, and he made us 20 napkins from the fabric in just 2,5 hours.
    Fair price.
It was lovely to visit the store, as they were not pushy but respectful.

This is an amazing store with a super interesting owner/ coin master ;)
We really loved so many pieces and it took us forever to decide which ones to buy. The coin-necklaces are so beautiful and unique - and for a great price. We are so happy to have found this amazing store and recommend it whole-heartedly!

Zanzibar has the prettiest souvenirs, when looking for a souvenir or a gift ,zivansh is your go to shop. A place where you can be sure the products aren't 'made in china' ( like many tourist shops products are) but all is locally produced, empowering the women of the country.
Get your zawadi (gift) or souvenir here.. it won't have the tacky 'Zanzibar' or 'hakuna matata ' prints, you'll find unique gifts that'll last for years. I always leave with a bag full ,as I can't resist..

Normally I don’t review shops but I’ll make an exception for Memories. The reason being this was the only place in Stone Town where I found a couple of titles by Zanzibar author and Nobel prize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah. This is certainly worth mentioning!

Of course it’s convenient to have everything from spices to gemstones under one roof. But for shopping souvenirs, clothes, etc I’d rather support one of the myriad of hole-in-the-wall shops scattered around the maze of alleys.

This spice company is organic-certified, fair trade, does ethical work with Zanzibari farmers and has super high quality products. After learning about them and inquiring they generously offered an informal tour of their warehouse and processing center and they’ve got the most friendly, informative and passionate team. It feels good to buy spices that are such high quality and support locals. Please don’t waste your time buying spices on gimmicky spice tours and just shop here. These products make great gifts for family and friends (especially if you add their free brochure that details the company’s history, mission, pics). You’ll find their products in some hotel gift shops and other tourist shops too, but their store has the most inventory. They’ve also recently opened a new shop on Gizenga street in stonetown which is equally as great. Elizabeth is the store manager and she is the sweetest! This place is right next to Emerson Spice Hotel so ask for directions there and you can’t miss it :)

Love the gorgeous Tanzanite stone that we purchased from Usman at Blue Gem.
I brought it back to the states and had a beautiful ring made. Thank you so much!

This shop is hands down one of the most amazing places for antique finds in the world and has some real treasures that you won’t find anywhere else. Expect to spend hours browsing but don’t expect a warm welcome or customer service of any kind because you won’t get it. The owner lives up to the reputation and then some. The prices are extortionate but it’s good fun having a look at least so definitely visit.

Women Sew in group are kind, genuine and nice. They work really really well and as an Afro-Feminist, I was happy to find them by chance. I love the clothes they did for me.
It is essential for me that I had to empower them.
    Much love

The picture is deceptive...this is a lovely gift shop featuring high-quality African crafts and products. The custom design work of Zarnigar is beautiful, and the array of high-quality toiletries is impressive; but the truly great things are the artisanal works from various areas of Tanzania: baskets, bindi dolls, wraps, sandals, cards, bowls, etc. And the staff (two very charming young ladies working alternating days) are helpful, explaining everything simply and thoroughly...as we were there off-season, we spent a lot of time learning about the work that the store owner does in promoting local arts and crafts and even buying enough gifts to fill our "spare" suitcase.

Moto and Dada are two women run collectives on Zanzibar. The Moto shop carries the Ukili woven baskets of Zanzibar ($32-50) made in high style with both traditional and contemporaey patterns, along with woven hats ($15) and soap products from DADA collective in Matemwe in North Zanzibar.I wanted to visit the Moto workshop in Pete and was given the phone number to call which after countless unanswered emails seemed like all would be well. I called was told to visit and I even had my driver call in Swahili the next day but upon arrival in Pete found the shop empty! Seems like they are rebuilding but noone on the phone or at the shop in Stonetown told me. Someone isnt minding the business! So take that as a warning for visiting the workshop! Everything was in the shop in Stonetown. Also note while everything here is beautiful and unique it tends to be twice the price of any other shop

Whatever you do DO NOT BIY JEWELRY from any of their stores. They made our naive selves think that we were getting a great discount & deal for a tanzanite bracelet, & two rings, yet the guy at the jewelry store inside of the Airport pretty much told us that they ripped us off badly. To make it even worse, the airport had deeper blue stones not semi purple, & they charged less. I literally paid $400 for a 1ct bracelet sterling silver and that was with a discount it was supposed to be about $500. I checked Mary K And they have a 10ct Tanzanite for a bit over $200. So disappointed, it’s very disgusting and disheartening when people keep asking for your help because of tough business due to Covid, yet take advantage of you...

Great organic spice shop in Stone Town with pure spices, mixes and rubs. All spices are truly from Zanzibar (from their coops) and organic certified according to European Standards. Great find, as I had visited 1001 Organic's other spice shop (next to Hotel Emerson Spice) some years ago.

Very interesting trip to see how the tropical spices grow that you use often and you don't see them on the trees in your region
