    One of the best
It is a small one but absolutely beautiful. Sculptures are amazing. There is hardly any place left empty. It requires a couple of hours at least to do justice.

This temple is no doubt a very holy place and a beautiful temple but the most attractive part of this temple is the huge gopuram. This temple is also in the form of a chariot the carvings on the wheels are worth seeing
The total time spent year could be approximately 30 mins. The premises is not having toilets Drinking water needs to be carried on your own. No Cloak Room. The person needs to be in traditional Indian attire to go inside.

Swmaymalai is one of the 6 Hill abodes of Lord Muruga! Here is known as Swamynatha Swami! The legend says that Lord Shiva received advice from His son Lord Muruga in this place.

This temple is built on a small hillock and one needs to climb 60 steps to reach the sanctum sanctorum on the hill top! Each step symbolize each Hindu Year of a cycle of 60 years. So as you climb to the Main Shrine, you cross your birth Year, current Year etc., and can stand and pray.

Lord Swamynatha Swami is huge and beautiful here. Always the Lord is always well groomed and gives you a pleasant dharshan.

One of the finest temples of Kumbakonam. the temple welcomed me with a dancing elephant at the entrance.
The Story of Temple - The story of Kumbakonam is about the origin of life in the present yuga that we live in. According to History (not mythology), at the end of every yuga, there is a huge flood, that leads to the destruction of all living beings in the earth. Bramha put together the seeds of all living organisms and also the Vedas and Puranas, in a pot which came to be called the Amrita Kalas (pot of nectar). Kumbham is the Sanskrit and Kudam the Tamil, for a pot of this type.
This pot was decorated with various items like flowers, vilvam, auspicious cloth, chandanam (sandal paste), and sacred thread, a coconut was kept on top of it. The whole thing was tied together, similar to the kalasams we see today at domestic functions and in temples. The pot was kept on the top of mount Meru. When the pralay began, it destroyed all creatures on earth. The Kumbham prepared by Brahma was also displaced, and floated on the flood waters for years and years. Finally, it settled at a spot (which is regarded as modern day Kumbakonam.
Next, the celestials wondered how to reach it. Siva, in the guise of a hunter, discharged an arrow from His bow, breaking open the pot. The seeds of life and the Vedas and puranas in the pot were scattered around, and thus life on earth restarted. When the pot broke open, the many decorations that adorned the pot fell at different places, each along with a different piece of the pot. The pieces of the pot immediately became Siva Lingams, and each of these places, sanctified by the falling of the decoration and the pot-shards, became a punya-kshetram.
You can read this story written in the premises of the temple.

Well maintained temple with separate shrines for Lord Shiva( Thenupureeswarar) and Godess Parvathi. Also another shrine of Goddess Durgai facing North direction, well known as Shakthi sthal, is inside the complex.

We were lucky and blessed to have darshan of Abhishekam on the day 12/7/22.

Temple is around 7 kms from Kumbakonam town.

This temple is located at, 9 KMs from Kumbakonam in Mayiladuthurai route. Presiding deity is Mahalingaswamy with Godess Bruhat Sundara Gujaambal. Temple built by Cholas and is believed, around 2000 years old.

According to legend, the site of the temple at Thiruvidaimarudur has been used for over 2,000 years and is associated with the Pandya king Varaguna Pandian. The temple contains inscriptions of the Hoysala kings and some Vijaya Nagara grants too.

A visit & prayer at this temple is believed to help get rid of the “Brahma Hatti Dosha” One of the powerful Shiva Temples of Southern India. This is a huge temple with big temple tank & white Nandi inside the temple premises.

People have a belief that people who are unmarried will get married if they visit the temple and need to visit as a pair after marriage. Just visit the temple and God will help you. There are touts every where and forcing people to get tickets etc even for married couples. Just ignore the touts and visit the temple.

This is one of the most powerful Maa Prathyangira Devi Temples in India. Ayyavadi is closer to Kumbakonam and the temple is situated in a serene atmosphere. Appears to be a very old, may be over 1000 years old temple. The Maa here is very powerful and evert month on the Amavasya Day ( No Moon Day) a special Pooja - Homam (Hovan) is conducted. All the bad effects due to evil eye are removed when you visit this temple.

The Maa is of Swayambu - herbal structure - completely covered with Kumkuma ( Red Bidni- herbal powder). Above the shrine and the place of worship one can find a roofing made out of Rudraksha seeds. As the Maa is of a natural structure no Abhishkam ( holy bathing ritual) is done for the presiding deity. One should visit this place to get rid of all the bad effects due to evil eyes and also to get peace.
