In a world full of luxury branded destinations with corporate managed resorts and their obligatory authentic beach bars, what an amazing find the Royal Bay Beach Bar is!

This is a 100% genuine, real people run bar on the beach in a beautiful location.

You can sit around small rustic log tables and seats in the sand on the actual beach, not some concrete section filled with sand and white plastic beach chairs (who makes these white plastic chairs and could they take a break!)

    The drinks menu
Cocktails, just a few, but they are so excellently made. With fresh local ingredients, good quality spirits in good measure. No pre-mixed post mixed flaming pineapple crème brûlée raspberry bubblegum spritz here (although you may hear a bit of JT from the very large R2D2 but no too loud jukebox)

The grilled fish is so very good, it’s freshly caught that day and in all likelihood probably a few hours before you order it. It takes about an hour after your order to come to your table, because they actually go and collect the fish to order, from the local fishermen.
It’s served perfectly grilled in a long, what I guess is a banana leaf (the best way to eat fish on a tropical beach surely) with real plates and real cutlery, no plastic/paper plates and plastic spoons/forks (even though as far as I have read the ones you do see are biodegradable?)

In all it’s simply perfect and have to say the best Christmas dinner my wife and I have had, plus we had a full moon (well very nearly full) no booking, no fuss. We even went for a late swim as the moon shone over the bay before one last Mojito!

One last thing: Don’t tell too many people about it, and don’t tell any politicians or developers!!!

Wanted to buy some chillis and things for a salad and stopped here as only a few minutes from where we were staying.

Fresh and clean and was always busy. Really enjoyed going there as was easy with lots of parking at Ole restaurant next door.

You should stop by even if to try some of the fruits - it is really great
