Its a pretty big beach and the best part is you can take your vehicle right next to the ocean.
Sand is flat and hard enough to drive.
BUT, do not park your vehicle right next to the Sea or take your vehicle in Sea. We saw a car getting stuck as they went pretty close to the waves where the sand was loose.

Also, do not drive too fast else when you’ll apply brakes your car is gonna skid.
With these precautions you can drive safely here.

Pro-tip: towards the right hand side after crossing few stones there are two small beautiful and clean beaches. Do visit there and thank me later. :)

This crescent shaped beach is right in the city and is one of the attractions of Kannur. There is no beach life here . Almost all visitors come here to enjoy the gentle breeze and view the sunset. So much can be done here to promote the beach but nothing is done here.

  • We landed on dharmadam by chance which was not much on itenary. After checking out few places we were not very happy and then thought of trying dharmadam.. To our surprise place was awesome with no one around. Amazed to see such a clean beach in India.. It is amazing...Try this place in early morning hours and you will get the best out of it. There is an island which is accessible by walk if the tides are not very high. Have a beach walk, meditate, feel serenity and come back after having a cup of tea in one and only local tea shop in the beach😊Happy travelling...

This place 12KM from payyanur town and 45KM from Kannur Airport is a bit of hidden gem. The set up is unique with 300M high ezhimala hill on the background.

This is one of the most pristine beaches of Kannur, on the Malabar coast. The beach is difficult to get to if you are staying in Kannur city, but quite accessible by a short walk if you are staying in one of the many resorts located opposite or near the beach. It is sandwiched between Thottada Beach to the north and Ezhara Beach to the south. The three beaches are separated by some rocky outcrops of hilly land.

From Ivory Coast’e, the resort where we were staying, there was a short cut with steps leading down to the northern end of the beach. From here we could walk down about one and a half kilometre to the southern end. The beach is very clean compared to any of the other commercialised beaches. There were no food and drink stalls, nor any restaurant shacks like you find in Goa. We could just stand and observe the waves lashing the shore and rolling up to our feet. It looked safe enough to swim.

The best time to visit the beach is in the evening to take in a glorious sunset. We would love to come to Kannur again to enjoy the two pristine beaches, Kizhunna and Thottada.

Tourists reach here after spending time at the main beach at Payymbalam are happy to discover their preferred choice of escape - a beautiful beach of golden sands tucked behind the thick line up of tall palms.

This beach is indeed a refreshing choice for those who find Payyambalam beach a bit touristy and crowded.

Meenkunnu beach is 10 kilometers north of Payyambalm along the same stretch of shoreline.

Meenkunnu means hill of fish, in local vernacular, indicating the strong fishing tradition of beach side villages.

Other than fishing folk, you may find very few people on the beach. That makes here the perfect spot to forget the worries of the world.

The cliff on top of this beach is a good view point. However, if you happen to arrive there in a vehicle, there is a better entry point to the beach. To get there, return and take the road to the north.

Relatively clean, very less clouded, secluded beautiful beach with nice golden sand. We went in the afternoon and there was no-one around. The route leading to the beach is quite narrow and ends abruptly but since not many people go there its unlikely you’ll get stuck in traffic.
In case you want to spend long hours there, i recommend carrying your own food.

Nice place to visit, it's good to see the sunset there. It's just on the road on a cliff. We can see the light house from here

The ettikulam beach is very familiar in kannur. We are so happy with my friends on this beach cover with full of coconut trees that's the real attraction.
