A very old and ASI protected monument ie. Sun Temple which is scientifically designed. It has its own followers in numerous numbers. Its architecture and sculpuring is pretty ancient/medieval. It has very rich history. Visitors must ready for gradual climb of 15- 20 minutes to reach the temple.

Sun Temple Katarmal is located in Village Katarmal near Almora (12km) on Almora Bageshwar Road near Kosi village (1.5km) at 2116m above sea level on a beautiful hill top. Other than Katarmal Sun Temple, there are four other famous Sun Temples in India; they are Konark Sun Temple, Orissa, Modhera Sun Temple, Gujarat, Martand Sun Temple, J&K and finally in Osia, Rajasthan.
We parked our car in designated area near the temple and climbed the temple on the paved path through the village life. One should keep drinking water while going up as there are no shops on the way and in the temple complex. Once you reach in temple complex, you will feel the divinity and spirituality all around. Fresh air, no noise, cleanliness and views of the valley makes it a perfect place to sit, relax and do meditation (Dhayana) here.
Being Sun temple, as expected, the first ray of the Sun falls on the Shivlinga inside the main temple. Katarmal Sun Temple is stone based and was constructed by the Katyuri King Katarmal in the 9th century by using a mixture of lime and lentil paste. As written on the Information Stone Panel, there are 45 miniature small shrines in small groups clustering around temples around the main shrine seems to be constructed at different periods. The main deity Surya here is called as Burhadita or Vraddhaditya. Other deities like Shiva-Parvathi and Lakshmi-Narayana are also established in this temple complex. The carved wooden doors and panels of the main shrine were transported to the National Museum, Delhi, after an idol from the 10th century was stolen. The temple has carvings on walls and panels and is maintained by ASI.
We came here in the afternoon after visiting from Jageshwar Temples and proceeded to Club Mahindra Binsar via a short adventurous driving route through unknown villages. We travelled to Village Maler near Guldaar Valley on Almora-Someshwar-Kausani highway then took right turn crossing the Kosi River on 12km drive (out of this last 6.5km were kachha road) on Patali Bager- Thapinia Motor Marg to reach adjacent to Club Mahindra resort on Binsar Bageshwar Road. This short cut is not recommended during rains.

The famous Temple of Chitai Almora is the Golu Devta temple, dedicated to Gollu or Goljyu Devta, an Avtar (incarnation) of Lord Shiva in the form of Gaur Bhairav. Several other temples of Golu Devta are there in Uttrakahnd, but the Chitai Golu Devta Temple is the most sacred one. Golu Devata is a deity of the Kumaoni and Garhwali community of Uttrakhand in India. It is a belief that Golu Devta fulfils wishes of devotees if asked with a clear conscience. Golu Devta is reckoned to be the God of Justice, so we saw thousands of wishes or petitions written on Stamp paper and plain papers along with small or large size bells hanged all around in the Temple. Due to this practice Chitai Temple is easily recognised. It is believed that Golu devta travels far distance on his white horse to meet the people of his kingdom to help them and he always follow the principle of Brahmacharya. There are several shops outside the temple selling Bells, other items used in Pooja, souvenirs, wooden articles, gift etc. An interesting Temple for kids also.

Kumaon Regimental Centre is a well-maintained museum that showcases the glory, top level achievements and triumphs of the Kumaon Regiment. The museum has been built to preserve and exhibit the legacy and customs of the Kumaon Region. The collections included several photographs depicting many wars, participated by Kumaon Regiment. This centre also displays weapons used by the armed forces and enemies, medals and uniforms of the brave soldiers, the flags of rebels captured during battles, stone tablets depicting information about various wars and stories of the First and the Second Param Vir Chakra, which belongs to Kumaon Regiment, documents and pictures associated with Kargil War etc. The Kumaon Regimental Centre Museum is situated inside the Army cantonment area, one needs to enter the personal details at the gate. The entry fee is Rs. 75 per head, photography inside the museum is restricted. It was a worthy visit of the centre to know about the legacy of Kumaon regiments.

Dwarahat in local language means “Way to Heaven”.
Hundreds of temples are spread around in Dwarahat. These 11th century ancient temples spread around the city makes it a must visit even if you are around 100-150 km. in the region.
Architecture, Symmetry and location in the hills, will ensure an enriching day full of wandering around in the place.

Every time I visit Ranikhet, this place is a must to see. So on an average we visit this place twice a year at least and the excitement to go there never cease. This is a small temple and people residing in nearby villages have immense belief in the devi. The mata temple is surrounded by thousands of bells. It is very easy to reach if you are at Ranikhet by road. Also very nice Ram temple and Army post starts from the gate of the temple. From here you can also go and visit Chaubatia.
