What travellers are saying
- davedowns1Denver, CO9 contributionsWe happened upon this small "museo" while walking in Scicli. The views were very nice on the way up (we followed a series of signs posted along the way). Carmelo was very nice and welcoming (if you don't speak Italian bring someone who does). His family had lived in this tiny grotto with their animals for many, many years and he gives an enthusiastic tour. He is also a bit of a craftsman and will be most happy to sell you some of his wares. The visit was entirely fascinating and is recommended.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marshall BFerney-Voltaire, France5,229 contributionsThe Via Francesco Mormina Penna is particularly pretty, with a number of buildings and churches to see. It was close to our restaurant (Osteria Tre Colli). It is considered one of the important historical areas in Scicli.Written 22 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - adambrzeskiMelbourne, Australia9 contributionsA day trip from Siracusa to swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Only
the west and south coasts face this sea. Superb beach. Wide and almost empty on the day but the restaurant we went to for lunch was THE HIGHLIGHT of the day. Corallo is absolutely a must to eat at. Fantastic food [we had seafood gnocchi and tuna carbonara. Yes , that’s correct) great service and great location. It’s on the beach. If we ever make it back to Sicily, we’d stay at Sampieri for 2,3 nights to really experience it.Written 2 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If your goal is to relax and stay near the water and beach, this is a great spot to do that. It is quiet and very few tourists.
Very few shops and restaurants--so be aware of that. Very nice food market, fish market. Great restaurant on the beach. I can't wait to go back.Written 1 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were staying near Punta Secca and Sampieri was a 40 minute drive away. It was well worth the drive. As well as the amazing sight of this long ruined factory it sits in a part of the coast that has beautiful smooth rock beaches that are deserted. The sandy beach is equally beautiful but is really crowded. We found the perfect beach less than five minutes walk away from the factory that became our favourite beach during our two week stay. - Marshall BFerney-Voltaire, France5,229 contributionsAnother church on the Sicilian Baroque route. It is hard not to see them all, and to imagine the commitment and the amount of work it took to rebuild these churches after the 17th century earthquake. Very lively sculptures of angels (putti) high up on the walls.Written 22 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GummyBearCambridgeshire, UK248 contributionsI found this amazing gem after some research on the internet and for an inspector Montalbano fan it is unmissable. When you step inside of the Town Hall building you can go on a guided tour of the actual set used for Inspector Montalbano, you see his office and the corridor where Cattarella sits and also the Mayor’s office - which really is the office of the Mayor. The guides are very helpful and the cost is most reasonable.Written 13 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - marcellos375Ferrara, Italy552 contributionsGood place to go in relatively low season (week day in mid-September), easy to park and to get lunch. There are a couple of restaurants with open terraces looking at the beach where an evening aperitivo and/or dinner should be nice. The water was clear and shallow, and the beach relatively big. I will likely go back.Written 25 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Marshall BFerney-Voltaire, France5,229 contributionsThere did not appear to be any access inside when we were there, but seeing the heads/masks on the facade were enough to warrant a walk around the building. Once can only imagine the sculptor's models in sculpting such heads, and whether they were intentionally designed to satirize some local officials or personages. There is also a descriptive plaque in front of the building - as is the case for all the important buildings in Scicli.Written 22 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marshall BFerney-Voltaire, France5,229 contributionsWhile not open when we were in Scicli (it is essential to find out opening and closing times of these churches, and even then, we have found that there are always exceptions), the viewing the exterior was worth the short walk from the restaurant where we had lunch. It was also close to our parking space alongside the nearby park. Perhaps an omen, perhaps not - as we walked from the parking space through the park, a black cat crossed the pathway.
We continued on, while a local gentleman decided to walk the other way. In any case, from what I read in TripAdvisor, the interior is well worth it.Written 20 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
