- BMT110Washington DC, DC3 contributionsWe stayed in Heraklion and we wanted to check out Chania, Rethymnon, and Lake Kournas without spending a fortune on Taxis. This "excursion" is perfect for that. It gets you to visit all these places. Do not expect much from the guides--are not terribly helpful or charismastic. You have maximum 1 hour an 45 min to each place and you are on foot so don't expect to explore in depth. They drop you off at the water side of each place which is all we wanted/expected. Did shopping, ate/drank at cafes and enjoyed the views. It takes an entire day--longer if tour-mates are late--because the time to drive to these places on your own would take 60-90 min. - Clare I1 contributionA fabulous and extraordinary experience with the most perfect hosts. A must do when your visiting Crete. Kallia took us through the history of Crete on the drive over to the beautiful vineyard and answered everyone of our many questions about wine. At the vineyard which was around 45 minutes from our hotel, we were welcomed with a lovely non-alcoholic drink and we waited just a short time for our guide to show us around the vineyard. Kiki took us around and explained the different indigenous grapes that they had there along with how long it took for them to ripen and be ready for pruning. Once the tour was done we were taken to a beautiful olive tree that was sheltered from the sun with amazing views across the vines and of the mountains and this is where we sat for the remainder of the excursion. Kallia took us through the tasting of olive oils and also wines with pairing of different Cretan cheeses. Once the tasting had finished we were given various foods such as beef & potatoes, Greek omelettes and bruschetta then left alone to enjoy the scenery, wines and food which was an extraordinary experience for us. Finally we were shown around the cellars in which they keep various wines of all different ages and barrels of maturing wines. Great experience all around. - Jay T2 contributionsI actually didn’t book this tour myself, I met someone at the first winery who had booked it, and was invited to join for the rest! Costas even offered to drive me to the next winery expecting nothing in return. Joining this tour was the best decision since I was able to go to all these great spots with ease, and with a guide who is very knowledgeable, fun, and easy to talk to. We had George as our guide and he had us laughing with his humor, enchanted with his knowledge and well fed with the stops for food and coffee. Can’t recommend Taverna Agisilaos-Stella which was our lunch stop. Scenes were breathtaking and food the best we had all holiday.
