This temple is so beautifully decorated, that it’s just a pleasure to walk in, sit on the floor and look around. The little stories of Ganesha are sculptured on the walls around you and are amazingly done with so much details and color. The ceiling outside is stunning. And it’s a very clean temple, unlike many where the rails rake over much of the space.

The temple is small and crowdy with architectural beauty of general south India. The place is dedicated to the Mata Shakti(Durga).

The temple is unique in many ways. The main deity is Lord Hanuman in pacha mukhi form (5 face) There is also shrine dedicated to Lord Shree Ganesh, Lord Rama, Mother Sita, Lord Lakshman, Lord Venkateshwara. Hanuman statue is tall, about 30 feet and is in the center of the temple premises. There is also a floating stone in water kept at the main corridor. Please dont miss this visit if you are in Puducherry, May Lord Hanuman bless us all.

The temple has a huge campus spread over a sprawling 70 acres. The most amazing part, to me, was the parabolic dome, studded with precious stones and metals.

Gengavaraga Nadeeswarar Temple is an ancient temple on the south bank of Sankaraparani River (Varaga Nadhi). It is located near Villiannur Town in Pondicherry. This place is equal to Kasi hence it was called Thiru Kasi which later on got name as Thirukanji. The Presiding Gods are believed to be more than 3000 years old. The temple got destroyed in Floods around 200 years ago and most of the Idols were retrieved and placed near the banks of Sankaraparani River (Varaga Nadhi) and recently a new temple has been built. The main idol was established by Sage Kashyap. A beautiful and quite location.

This is a beautifully decorated ancient temple with so many small temples within the premises and also a stagnant water pond at the back side with so many white fish in it. The most attractive part is the nicely depicted murals covering myths from our ancient scriptures.
