Gokarna Temple is very famous all over India which is located on Koti Teertha main Highway. The Shivaling is known as Atma Linga and was given to Ravana by Lord Shiva. This place is also considered as one of the sacred Mukti Stalas. This is one of the five Siva Linga's of Karnataka. This is one of the seven muktisthalas of Karnataka. Other Six Mukti Stalas are at Udupi, Subramanya, Kollur, Kumbasi, Sankaranarayana and Koteshwara.

This temple is beautifully built in Dravidian style architecture in the 4th Century. The Shiva Linga here in this temple is of a 6 feet tall. The top of the Atma Linga is the only part of the Linga that is visible to devotees and devotees can touch only the top of Linga which is like a shape of a Cow's ear. During the Aastha Bandana Kumbhabhishekam, is when the entire Atmalinga is shown to the Devotees. Kumbhabhishekam happens once every 40 years. As per custom, devotees first take a dip in the Gokarna beach, then visit the Maha Ganapathi temple that is opposite the temple, then only visit the Mahabaleshwar temple.

Sreepada Sreevallabha who is the first incarnation of lord Dattatreya lived three years here at Gokarna before going to Nivrithisangam and Kuruvapur and performed penance here.

    Gokarna temple Dress Code:
Visitors have to enter only wearing a dhoti and salwar and women can enter wearing a Saree, Salwar or traditional attire that covers shoulders and extends below knees . Visitors wearing Jeans, Bermudas and shots are not allowed inside the premises of the temple.

    Temple Visiting timings:
    Morning 06:00 to 12:30
    Evening 05:00 to 08:00

Om Beach is 4 miles from Gokarna
Om Beach is a great view and once you visit for boating ride it is a high place because you are next to Pardise Beach, you can see Half Moon Beach and Aganashini River Point and if lucky you can see Dolphin Point Dolphin.

    It was my best experience
I jammed, camped alone and pitched a tent next to the beach for the night. I enjoyed going to the best restaurant there for dinner.and

If anyone wants to pitch a tent near the beach, ask the sea gaurd there and they will give you the best advice.

Gokarna main beach is just walkable distance from Temple which is one of the main most visited beach of Gokarna. Apart from its natural beauty, this beach holds great religious significance for Hindus as pilgrims often gather here to perform rituals and seek blessings of Lord Mahabaleshwar.

    Interest things about Gokarna Beach
    1. Gokarna beach is the longest beach among the beaches of Gokarna.
    2. The Ganagavalli river meets the sea near the beach.
    3. It is mainly visited by the Pilgrims visiting Gokarna for a dip before visiting temple.
    4. Gokarna beach is a long open beach and has gained popularity as a famed Surfing and trekking site.

This is one of the places of Gokarna that I personally loved. By ferry, it took us around 35 minutes to reach Half moon beach. The beach is really clean and is less populated so you get to have your own private space.

Gokarna is an ancient Tirtha Kshetra of a pilgrimage place. Mahaganapathi temple is located 40 steps from the Atmalinga of Gokarna. It is right outside the main temple in typical Konkan Style. This temple is built on the basis of Dravidian architecture. As per localities, visitors are supposed to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha before visiting the Mahabaleshwar temple.

This fort has got a lots of history. Ruled by different people like adil shah, Portuguese and British. What they don't tell you, that this fort was also ruled by a spice queen for trade. She had it ruled for 54 years. (don't know how far it is true officially). Clean fort and breathtaking view in monsoon. I liked every bit of it.

Happened to see a small board stuck on the trunk of a tree stating 'Shiva Cave' right opposite the place where we stayed for a day (Kudle Beach View Resort)... once I got into the jungle, I realized that there were no further landmarks and no one to direct you - still carried on simply out of curiosity and knowing that it was a mere 100 meters inside... there is just a flag to indicate the location of this spot else nothing much helps including navigation maps. There is a hole in the wall which leads into a cave with a small temple inside. I was lucky to spot a few workers cleaning up the place in preparation for Shivratri else it would have been really cumbersome to confirm that this indeed was my destination. Went close to noon time and hence did not find any bats inside... feel free to skip this one in case you have limited time allocated to the Gokarna trip...

This beach in itself is not that famous but serves as a starting point for famous beach trek of Gokarna. It can also be the end point if one starts from Om Beach. This beach is very well accessible via roads.

On the road of Nimmu house (Gokarna main beach), a few meters up the hill is this wonderful ancient Rama temple. There are two natural spring outlets; one in the entrance serves as a drinking/bathing source for sadhus and locals and the other purely for drinking beside the temple. Local people believe it has healing properties. The temple has a great vibe and a charm of its own. We did not carry a mobile with us and in a way not everything needs to be captured and shared rather just experienced. The view point beside the temple is serene as its secluded and provides an amazing view of the Gokarna main beach. You can see an amazing sunset; we sat there watching the bright orange fire ball consumed by the sea.
