What travellers are saying
- James GCleethorpes, UK79 contributionsFantastic time at the centre. Such a great variety of well cared for birds of prey. Staff all friendly and the flying displays are really special!!Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BigJeff L15 contributionsThis is one of the very greatest most magnificent ruined Abbey's in the country. It does not take much imagination to relive what was here and the architectural splendour of the place. They have done a very good job of enhancing the experience with the cafe and the museum but the car park does let it down a bit. Despite the pot holes, it is just not big enough as the place itself is pretty remote and other than being a good walker you will need a car!. The price was a bit high as well and you actually had to pay for parking.Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Felixstowe2016Felixstowe, UK5,011 contributionsAlthough this castle is a ruin it still is worth a visit since there are several buildings inside the castle walls.Written 9 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 798michaelcNewcastle upon Tyne, UK65 contributionsYou must visit here if you love ale and happen to be in the area. Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and locals. Superb beer brewed onsite in vats you can sit and drink right next to. This unexpected find became a regular stop on the way to dinner every night.Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vivEnglandPreston, UK774 contributionsIt doesn't take very long to walk around it but there are really lovely views and it was interesting looking down at the Rivielaux Abbey as you walked along the grassed terrace between each temple. You couldn't go in one of the Temples but could have a look through the windows and there was a mirror to help you see the ceilings better. The other temple however is gorgeous and you can go inside and have a look at the beautiful ceiling and some furniture with a table laid out with a colourful table service. The owner lived at Duncombe House a couple of miles away and decided to build the temples and grassy terrace to impress guests as he took them for a drive through in a carriage. Don't miss having a look at the exhibition underneath this temple.Written 10 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David W9 contributionsNew Years day stopped in Helmsley fir a stroll.
Church was open.
A remarkable collection of painted walls and most remarkable for myself a series of stained glass windows featuring St Columba !Written 27 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s fine if you’re swimming but if you’re with young children and not moving around much then you soon get cold. A nice warm shower would’ve been handy but it was colder than the pool. Reasonably priced hot choc soon warmed us up. Well worth a visit on a hot day!Written 28 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,258 contributionsAlthough the various attractions here, ie the Birds of Prey Centre, the House and Gardens are all closed at this time of year, the estate remains open to visitors and is a great place for a walk. We were staying in Helmsley for two days and on both mornings we walked into the estate and enjoyed invigorating strolls from the town, up the estate drive.
At the start of the walk you get splendid views of the castle on your right, with its adjoining walled garden, then a short while later you pass the impressive stately home on your left. There are various walks to enjoy here and we went to the top of the hill then dropped down to the river before retracing our steps, then taking a circular route through the woods back onto the main estate road.
On both mornings the weather was kind and we enjoyed those wonderfully crisp December mornings with the watery sun trying in vain to chase off the low-lying morning mist. What a great way to start a day.Written 22 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you are looking for something special, a new picture or just that little something for yourself at home this shop will have it. Full of beautiful Moorcroft piece, but lots more for every taste. The window display was stunning. There is also a great selection of cards. The owner was very pleasant and we had a lovely chat with him. Thank you.Written 14 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mike PHelmsley, UK37 contributionsThis is a very good gallery showing both traditional and contemporary art - mainly paintings, prints and ceramics. A wide selection and you would be hard pushed to visit and not identify something you like. Operates Own Art scheme so you can buy and pay by instalements. The are happy to receive people who only want to Look - but you will be tempted!Written 6 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DACETCNaples, FL1,112 contributionsThe Feversham Monument sits at the heart of the village square of Helmsley. The village itself is well worth a walk around with many lovely shops and often times, loads of people.
