My husband and I wanted to give surfing a try during our stay in Uvita. We came across Pacific Surf School, and requested an instructor. They organised for us to learn to surf from a Yung gentleman named Caesar, for a price of $60 USD each. We had the instructor all to ourselves, and we started off by practicing techniques on land for a short time, then hit the waves! I thought it would be a funny flop, but by the end of an hour of surfing, we were both able to stand up on our boards (sometimes) and ride the waves!
He started by holding the board for us and giving us a little push and telling us when to pop-up, then we graduated to paddling and pop-ing up with only his voice guiding us, to eventually being able to time it on our own. A fresh coconut water was included halfway through the class. Once we got the hang of it, He then took some videos of us with our waterproof camera. He was very patient with us, and individually paced our learning. He also had us switch boards with one-another and gave us advice on selecting a good board in the future should we ever rent one. By the end of 2.5 hours, we were tired and happy to have had an amazing experience. Big thanks to Caesar, and to the lovely woman who organised the class. We are now skilled enough to rent boards and practice on our own should we have the chance.
