Truly the Aspen of New Zealand. Upscale, classy, spotless, a wide variety of activities, and everything is maintained carefully. The lake and surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. We liked Wanaka far more than Queensland (which is a bit more commercial). We did bike and wine tours -- truly enjoyable!

How lucky were we to nab a perfect June day, fresh to start, rising to a balmy 10 degrees...perfect hiking conditions for Roy's Peak. After picking up a quick salad roll for lunch, we soon arrived at the track, paid our $2 fee each and by 8am had started the climb up. A convenient WC is at the start for those needing one. A fairly quick gain of altitude got the heart pumping early and it wasn't too long before the puffy jacket was stripped off. The walking surface is a mix of rock and well formed track, with plenty of cow manure along the way - the constant reminder that you are on a private farm for much of the way. The cows were a great distraction at times and they have to have some of the best views ever....definitely living their best life!

As we ascended we were amazed by the stunning vistas - the views of Lake Wanaka (and Lake Hawea) along with the stunning mountain range - simply breathtaking. After an hour or so, we started to see those keen hikers who had summited for sunrise making the trek back down the hill. Their smiles said it all - and what a way to start the day!

We both took walking poles which made the hike a little more comfortable. I could see how mid summer it would be extremely hot to climb, with no shade on the track. The track to the top is a series of switchbacks...just keep walking!

The lookout is about 40 minutes below the actual peak and was a great place to take a breather before the final push to the top. Apparently the lookout is NZ's most instagrammable place - easy to see why. Fortunately there were very few people up there, so we took a few photos, used the very scenic loo (BYO paper) and started up to the summit. The first section is a little rutted and rough, but again the views outweigh any track issues.

The summit itself gifts you a panorama like no other! So many jaw-dropping moments. It was a privilege to witness on such a cracker of a day, and those of us up there knew it! Snow was very light on, but Mt Aspiring and a few of her neighbours had a coating - guessing much would be year-round. Hard to think in less than a month, most of the bare mountains will be covered in white.

Time to descend, but the downhill seemed to take forever! The carpark you can see for most of the way down just did not seem to be getting closer! My crook hip and arthritic knees were grateful for the poles and it was a great feeling reaching the carpark. Took us 2hr 45m to get to the top - we didn't rush, rather stopped many times for photos! The descent was about an hour less.

This is a relatively easy track, and would be great to take the kids up. Your reward is an incredible and endless panorama, evident from the first 5 minutes of the hike. This is one you will remember forever....especially on a perfect Wanaka day.

Great value for the price! Had a great lesson with Linnéa and a great time overall. The cafe inside was amazing. Everybody that worked there was very helpful and welcoming. Lots of phenomenal trails for all different levels of skiing.

Will need to book transportation from Wanaka to the Raspberry Hill carpark, think its around $180nzd one way. spent 2 nights at Aspiring hut before doing a day hike to Liverpool hut. I would even just spend a day exploring the lower aspiring valley. I saw like 10 Kea in the area!. booking the hut for 2 nights seemed like a good idea There is lots of time to go at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery. You will need to book through the Department of Conservation NZ web site. If you book, you just need to take cooking stuff and food, The DOC provides a mattress bunk and a gas stove. Aspiring hut is quite big and cozy. There are options to pitch a tent outside; its cheaper but you don't have access to Gas stove. Booking Hut cost $60NZD per person per night

Great museum. 5 large sheds filled with toys, vehicles, aircraft’s and other novelty pieces. Very entertaining. Well worth stopping by. We took about an hour to walk through.

Our family visited this Beautiful Lavender Farm during our stay in Queenstown. It was all worth it. The farm itself was very beautiful, picturesque. There are lots of amazing home made skin care products using lavenders from the farm. My favourite is the lavender hand cream, lavender massage oil and lavender massage cream. Those products are only available for sale on-site or shipping within NZL. I wish I had bought more of them to take it overseas.

Had a wonderful tasting with Ian. He was so friendly and it was so much fun. We had a group of 8 people and just dropped in late in the afternoon, it didn't phase Ian at all. Met the 2 beautiful dogs and bought the mystery pack, and some other lovely wines. All the wines were great.

Thanks Monica & Liz! You and the iSite Wanaka team have made booking / planning this trip really easy. Without your help, there would have been a lot of stress, trying to work out timing for accommodation, events and how to pull it all together.

Looking very forward to meeting you when we are in Wanaka soon,

    Best regards,
    David

We walked just up to the Wanaka Lookout. It's a steep walk up stairs which are my bugbear. My benchmark walk is Key Summit. A long steady but comfortable gradient up into the sub-alpine area with no stairs. Admittedly we didn't go up to Rocky Mountain but we couldn't see how the views would be any better for the effort. It passed a couple of hours.
