- Pravee PColombo, Sri Lanka23 contributionsThis place is surrounded with tall trees, tea estates and has a beautiful lake. Also it is very quite location where you hear the sound of nature. Also we went boating (rowing), it was great. Ashok is the man who brought the boat for us and he was very safe to travel with.Written 31 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kelumKandy District, Sri Lanka1,345 contributionsThis is the highest free falling cascade in the island with year round life. And the location and the surrounding is arguably the finest. To get the experience to the full, one must walk, all the way from the 4th mile post. It's a 2km walk right under the mysterious, foreboding and yet majestic Seven Virgins Range.Almost the entire stretch is with very limited human presence, but it's safe. Village folks and Tea community you have here do not bite!. Best to begin the walk as early as possible.Walk and and the decent to the falls may need about 90 minutes so better begin around 8am. Falls look best at morning before 11am, before the million boulders between you and the falls get hotter. Decent is through the village down along 500 or so paved steps, The little town at the start of the decent has a single restaurant with very good washroom. The charge is Rs 50 for use but you might need it. Talk to the owner and he would open up on his first hand experience at seeing the aircraft tragedy in 1974- then the one with biggest loss of life.
PLEASE BRING BACK EVERYTHING YOU TAKE. Bring it all the way home. Laxapana is still spared from plastic pollution .Let's keep it that way.Written 7 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. First class must be reserved (you get a seat assigned) and there is air conditioning. Seats are comfortable, and there is leg room. Second and third not, and expect to stand. All toilets are squat toilet. Bring your own toilet paper. There will be people walking up and down the aisles selling food and water. Getting on and off requires a certain level of physical effort, and handling heavy luggage is a chore. And the trains bounce along, so hang on. It’s all very scenic, and you get to meet some interesting people. Trains are more or less on time, so be careful if you have a flight connection. Be sure to look at the stations, which tend to use 100+ year old British signaling and switching equipment — all manual. It’s a blast from the past.Written 7 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mirjana D3 contributionsThe tour was very informative. An excellent guide, full of knowledge, he did his best to explain the process of tea picking and production.Written 19 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katherine Mille16 contributionsI only did about 3 hours on the train but I’m told it was the most scenic part and it worked perfectly for me. Unlike most tourists I was going south to north so from Ella to Nanu Oya, just outside Nuwara Eliya. Sit on the right side for the sweeping views I went first class which is air conditioned but in fact 2nd would have been just as good as all the windows were open and it was cool and refreshing. You can pick up a ticket at any train station and should get yours a few days in advance, or online. I was warned about the black market resale of tickets during high season but in fact my train carriage was half empty. The views were impressive and I also liked the little farms and local crops and seeing the agricultural techniques and animals. There are forest and Mountain views and you can also see the train coiling around itself at certain points. I saw all I needed and enjoyed it, without doing the whole 7 hours from Kandy.Written 15 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
